Traveling to work at the festival

Hey,

Apologies if this has been posted already, I searched but couldn't find any answers.

I'm going to be working at the festival this year. My plans are to stay in London on the Sunday night (before the festival) and then head over to the site on the Monday afternoon/evening.

I know there's no public transport directly to the festival site this early in the week so I imagine the best way to do it is getting a train to Castle Cary and then a taxi to the site.

Does anyone know how much this taxi ride will cost (roughly)? or have a better solution?

Last year Greenpeace were running a free (bio-diesel) bus from Saturday. If they do the same again this year, you can just hop on that. (In 2008 - on the Tuesday at least - there was a free bus laid on by the festival.)

One way or another, I'd guess it's likely that there will be some form of free transport. Even as early as Saturday crew are flooding in at the station.

Thinking about travel you guys are probably best for this question too...

I need to be in Euston station for a train at 6pm on the Monday after the festival (28th) - work commitments. I'm going to be working until 6am on the Monday morning.

My plan is to pack everything up before I start working (on Sunday night) then just head straight for London as soon as I finish. I imagine travel will be a total nightmare so I fully expect to be waiting about for hours. I was thinking that heading to Castle Cary station to get a train back to London is the best option.

Anyone able to offer any better/tried and tested solutions? And what kind of wait times am I talking here?

Thanks again,

D

If I remember rightly, the first 'special' from CC to Paddington was at about 6.30am last year.

If I was doing it, I'd pack up and lodge stuff at the lock up by PGA before work. Then all you need to do when you've finished is stroll up there, and carry for the last 100m to the bus.

Little in the way of queues at 7am, but they start to build from 8am onwards.

Sounds like you should be fine with your plan. You'll sleep well all the way to Paddington! :)

Ah, sorry, Glasto acronyms!

PGA = Pedestrian Gate A

It's the gate for the bus station.

(Also note, your food & refreshments options steadily diminish as you leave the core of the festival. There's something basic at the bus station. More basic at Castle Cary. And then there's the buffet on the train. If you're hungry after shift, you might want to get your fill before heading up to PGA.)
