Problems for mate travelling on Thursday night

Just discovered that there is hardly any travel from Edinburgh to Inverness after 9 pm. Looking at the travel options are problematic. The last train to Inverness from Edinburgh leaves at 9.40 but takes an incredible 11 hours to reach Inverness as it travels via Aberdeen. My mate is on a flight on Thursday evening at 7.40pm and wont arrive in Edinburgh till 9pm. The last Citylink bus leaves at 8.45 pm which reaches Inverness at 12.20 pm. Does anyone know of connections from Edinburgh airport tha would get my mate to Inverness for Thursday midnight or the early hours Friday morning or of alternative buses which travel a little later. Otherwise this is an appeal to the Rockness going public who maybe are travelling up to Inverness late on Thursday, maybe I can organise a pick up for him. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Thanks for reply, but Ive already booked rooms in a hostel in Inverness, I only found out the time he was arriving today, might just start a lift needed thread!

If I were you, I would get the airport buses to the center of Edinburgh, and stay in a hostel for the night. There are hostels such as 'Castle Rock' that you should check out, they are about £8- £12 for one night. Then get on a Megabus first thing in the morning, for a one way single can range between £11-15 with Megabus. The earliest you can do is usually about...8.30am. Or fork out on a train,for one that will leave earlier possibly? Get them cheaper on 'Trainline'. Either journey will take roughly 4 hours. Hope this helps..

if he had been in edinburgh earlier in the day could have given a lift up no problem but will be drinking cider in inverness at 9pm

The thing is that he booked with Aer Arran which is direct from Galway to Edinburgh, around the time of volcanic activity he was originally scheduled to arrive earlier, but that was changed to an evening flight. I think he should get in touch with Aer Arran, explain the situation and get his flight changed to an earlier time again.
