Advice needed, Please

Hello!

Received a phone call this morning saying I've won tickets to Glastonbury via Tuborg lager competition, fab news :D BUT... Really don't know what to expect...

I've tried to organise parking as we'd thought we'd camp but we aren't entitled to book via seetickets as we aren't registered with them, etc, etc.. They have told me will be able to park when we arrive, however - I'm sensing a fob off here! I doubt we'll be able to arrive until Thursday evening or early Friday morning - does it sound feasible that there might be parking available or should I persist with seetickets?

Oh and this is going to be my first attempt at camping, made it to 40 and never camped, I'm sensing a few people might be laughing at this point but do you need to take food with you...or will we need to take out a second mortgage to pay for food available on site?

Any advice would be gratefully received!

You can buy parking tickets on the gate, although I've always arrived Wednesday but I can't see it being an issue later on.

That said I don't see whay you shouldn't be able to get one from See, I'd definitely try again first.

Food is fairly reasonable but it's a festival, prices are always a bit higher. My group only ever take a few snacks, all meals bought on site. Hunt around and you'll find stuff within your budget.

I'd agree with the above - buy food there unless you're on a tight budget. Food isn't overly expensive - around £6-7 for a good sized main meal - and there's tons of choice. Also, you're likely to have a really long walk from carpark to campsite so you won't want too much extra weight.

As a general rule, food near the main stages tends to consist of overpriced burgers, cardboard pizza slices etc.

West Holts has quite a few good food stalls - Le Grande Bouffe sells delicious hot french meals, there are also decent Thai, pie and bacon buttie stalls amongst others.

If you're happy to eat veggie food there are some real bargains to be had in the green fields - prices tend to be lower and a lot of places have seating and even proper crockery & cutlery!

Also note that all the water from the taps is drinkable, and there are quite a few general-store type stalls around (look for the big yellow sign) that sell everything from bottles of soft drink to lighters to sun cream to batteries.

Its always been previously possible to pay for parking when you get there, if you want confirmation email the festival office.

As for camping we take snacks such as cereal bars, biscuits, apples and booze. A few tins of beans, or packets of noodles. Single burner stove and a pan. Take whatever you want, except glass, that isnt permitted so need to decant stuff into plastic.

I recommend a sleeping mat or airbed as being a farm it can be a bit rough terrain!

Pretty much anything can be bought on site if you have forgotten anything important!

If you want, I have a spare car parking pass you can buy? I live in a shared house and we were going to head down in 2 cars and bought 2 parking passes, but we've decided to hire a mini van instead now, so I've got a spare pass I'd be happy to sell for face value. They arrived in the post last week so I have it ready to send out :)

Not sure if this is allowed so sorry mods if it's not.

Honestly my recommendation is to read as little as you dare about what to expect. That way it'll be a lovely surprise when you get there.

Do make a point of exploring, exploring, exploring -- there's always more to see.

Tent, clothes, ticket, money -- that's all you really need, anything else is a bonus.

Congrats, thats excellent. i have emails from glastonbury festival office confirming you can buy parking tickets on the day, so sure you will be fine.

Try to arrive earlier to get the best of the camping, but even if yopu are later you will find somewhere, just might have to walk a bit more. As a steward as soon as you see one, they will be able to radio around to see where the space is, save you walking without reason.

Food is OK priced, £7 for a BIG meal, so £20 a day will keep you very well fed, and then either bring as much booze as you want, or cash to buy it! Not SUPER pricey in the festival to drink, london pub prices, about £3.50 for a pint, but i bring my own booze to save queing.

Congrats on winning the tickets. You will LOVE it.

Everything I was wanting to tell you has already been imparted. Good bunch on here and as you will have seen, always someone with a spare car park pass they no longer need.

Glasto loves it's "virgins" and I'm sure I speak for many of us veterans that we do get genuine pleasure from the wild eyed excitement and wonderment among any virgins in our midst. I mean that on a genuinely non-patronising sense as there will almost certainly be something new that makes the regulars go "wow"

Please post your thoughts after the festival. Would love to read them
