Almost all the forums I post on, not just festival ones, are seeing a decline... Maybe forums are seeing there day when you have things like twitter etc now appearing...

Would be a shame... A one line sentence vs a proper debate... but people seem to love just puling out one liners :)

Aye, thats a very good point.. I dont use that Twatter thing but i do use Faeces Book.

Thing is though... we have seen a rapid decline on here in a very short space of time---and i dont think that is directly linked to the reasons you`ve put forward. Do you?

of course it's not. pre rockness, the forums were booming. i come back from rockness, the forums have been upgraded and it's not once been as busy. at least in the discussions anyway. i didn't notice the glastonbury section being as busy as it has been in previous years.

that's a fair point. but if new blood doesn't come in at festival season, when is it?

It only happens at any time of year from people posting something that engages others.

for the record, i've no problem with the new design, i'm used to it now. but i think it's glaringly obvious that plenty do and have been scared off. either that or june/july is a busy time for people and it will pick up again soon...

The numbers driven away by the new design and/or the now-fixed javascript error that existed is minimal, whatever your own opinion might be. And in fact I'd go so far as to say they're in the main no loss, as in the main they're those who consider their presence here as the reason for them visiting here.

Traffic always comes and goes, and the postings in this forum is always decreased by those people's festival activities - they're posting about their festival doings rather than more general things they might post about here.

Things will pick up on the basis of there being posts of interest to people. Most people visiting here aren't interested in any cliquey stuff.

It certainly seems quieter, you can go away for the day and come back and not much has happened. Even the threads that are a bit busy are quite boring. Why is this? I don't have a clue. I don't find using the new layout a problem although I did prefer the old one. Unless I found it near impossible to post I'd still use it. The thing is even the actual festival forums havce been pretty quiet this year with the exception of Glastonbury which will always be busy. will it get busy again? Only time will tell.

Facebook (and perhaps twatter) has effected these forums, but not a huge amount.

The "rapid decline" is in your head and not on these forums. The numbers visiting the forums overall is more than last year. The numbers logged in when visiting is significantly more than last year. The number of page reads is slightly above what it was last year, as are the number of posts.

So none of it is as you're presuming.

Neil is probably right...

Usally I am posting in the glasto forum this time of year but seeing as I haven't been this year I am probably getting a false impression of it being quite. I posted in a post on the glasto forum a day or two ago and after a couple of hours that post was on page 5. So the glasto forum is still very busy.

there's no 'probably'. The stats prove it.

Correct, as are others. The flow of posts in the various festie forums is related to some extent by the changing fortunes of those festivals, as well as the types of people those forums then attract because of their changing fortunes, as well as just generally.

For example, the popularity of V, T, and R/L have all fallen significantly in the last 2 years (yes, I know they still sell out - but they're a lot closer now to not selling out than was the case in the past). Against that, as an example, End of the Road is seeing more posts.

are you saying stats from this time last year? what's the stats compared to this time last month?

Yes, I was talking a comparison with last year.

June had many more hits than May, as it always does. The traffic curve for both May and June - including post-upgrade for this June - compared against last year are pretty much an exact fit in how the line curves, but with a slight increase for this year compared to last.

There's nothing of much sense that can be drawn from a comparison of one month against its preceding one for this website, as the traffic is so seasonal. Meaningful comparisons for here are from year-on-year, and there's nothing from those that's showing anything for any concern.

Which all goes to show that what you believe to be happening isn't happening.

Anecdote... I was out the other week with King Larmer and he was playing "over there" whilst i was sat watching. Two people next to me started talking about him and in particular his hair which is very long for his age,and not very fashionable for up here.

Even though they were entitled to their opinion, I was really really upset. Why? Cos he`s my baby isnt he. Obvious.

This medium is your baby, No1 and its very understandable when its criticised in any way or form, you dont like it,and defend it to the hilt---just as i would have done in regard to King Larmer.

I`m very aware of that and tbh always try,if i do have something to say about it--to do it in a reasoned fashion.

My usage on here is 95% based here on discussions---and sorry like No1 --i just cant accept your reasoning.

Before the Changeling came about--it was busy, as busy as you could expect--new threads were being started, lots of discussions etc etc and even allowing for some bits of slaver going on (myself inc in that)---it was busy--lot more than now.

You keep talking of visits, number of hits sort of. That means nowt to me-- I look at how many people are actually posting...and I think it is a fact, that there is not as many posts in the last 4weeks comapred to the previous 4.

Yes, for the reasons we have put forward, the economic climate, other social networks, shit topics things do ebb and flow and so I am not saying the reason is 100% down to The Changeling.... but i am pretty sure it has played good part.

den,still here.

What's the stats for new subsciptions like?

Just that some people seemed to only get Javascript errors when not logged in, and whilst members that have been here will persevere and click the 14 of so error boxes per page, I could see it discouraging new visitors without an account.

you're welcome to have your own opinion. But your own opinion is wrong whatever you might like to think.

While there's less posts in discussions currently, that's certainly not the case across the whole boards. And because the festival season is now in full swing and this is a festivals website, that change in where people are posting isn't to be unexpected.

I'm not entirely sure, but suspect that a fall-off in posts in discussions in June isn't unusual. It's certainly been affected this year by the world cup, and that's to be expected.

Site runs fine on Win 7 but dies a death on Apple Mac...

Just realised why, Flash is crap on Apple...

Anyone having issues with the site on Apple, it will at least be in part down to Adobe Flash...
