Glastonbury Essentials List - For first timers.

Hey guys,

I know this has been covered to death, I wrote this for a freind whos is a first timer, so thought somebody else on here might be able to find it useful. I've added notes where I think applicable, please note this is a bloke-and-me-specific list in terms of clothing, I have *no* idea how women pack for festivals..... If you think I've missed anything let me know!

Glastonbury Supplies Tick Off List

==================================

Essentials

---------------

Tickets. (Doh!)

Tent.

Sleeping Bag.

Sleeping Mat or Inflatable Mattress. (or a cheap lilo from poundland)

Money (£20-£40 a day) (Trust me queues for ATM while there can be 1+ hours)

Debit Card.

Mobile Phone.

a Medium Sized Towel.

Inflatable pillow (or a pillowcase you can shove jumpers in)

Ear Plugs (I think Boots home brand are the best and cheapest)

Loo Roll.

Pack of 10 bin liners, maybe 20 if have space. (thick rubble bags are best)

Roll of Duct Tape. The thicker the better, if possible get electricians tape.

Weatherproof Lighter or a handful of cheap disposables.

Torches (head mounted, maglight or wind-up recommended, more than one HIGHLY reccomended)

Wet wipes (Enough to sink a battleship)

At least 2 disposable Rain Ponchos. (You'll lose one)

Medical/Wash Kit Containing....

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Plasters

Bandage

Soap (preferably green or environmentally freindly)

Insect bite stuff

Hayfever medication (if you're anything like me!)

Hangover Tablets

Eye Drops

H5TP capsules (do a bit of research if you like, these are apparently awesome, I'm testing them

this year)

Mouthwash (get a little mini-bottle and use it throughout the day, will keep you feeling a bit cleaner than you actually are!)

Vial of Olbas Oil (use bit under the nose when going to use the toilet, kills the smell)

Antibacterial hand wash (use this, constantly, the sh*ts aren't fun)

Clothes List

-----------------

Wellies, (very very very good ones)

1 Pair of trainers/boots (that you don't mind walking miles in and can

write off at the end if need be.)

1 pair of *comfortable* sandels/fliflops

The heaviest, thickest jumper you own. (Doesn't matter how naff it looks.)

The lightest, thinnest top you own. (Paper thin.)

A 3 pack of heavy duty thick socks (think poundland does three packs)

Other Socks and Pants for *6* days.

1 Thick Hoodie.

2 longsleave shirts / jumpers.

1 T-shirt/Top per day plus one spare.

1 or 2 Pair of shorts.

1 or 2 Pair of jeans. (You can use the ones from your emergency clothes

set, at a push)

1 Pair of "sleeping" trousers. (Tracky bottoms or similar).

The "emergency" clothes set.

(One entire set of clothes, put in a binbag and stored at bottom of your

backpack, not to be touched until you're leaving, I cannot stress how

uncomfortable a 6 hour coach journey after no sleep for 5 days while

you're soaking wet is...)

"Luxuries" if you have space

------------------

Beer (Debatable this one I know, most would consider it an essential,

personally I don't drink much at festivals as one heavy night can ruin

all the days coming up)

Binoculars

Space Blankets X 4 (2 for £1 at poundland, stuck to outside of tent to stop

typical 6am heat overload)

MP3 player + headphones

a Book (no hardbacks)

Gas stove (Yay my mates bringing his!)

Cookable food (Pasta and tinned soups are my recommendation, load up on carbs!)

Portable speakers for chilling in your camp area

Eating utensils / Plate / Bowl / cup

Teabags!

Glowsticks (Poundland etc etc....)

*Food

---------

You want to be bringing food that gives the most energy for

the smallest area, so stuff like nut or energy bars are ideal. You'll

want to keep your electrolyte and blood sugar levels up too, so fruit

is a massive help. I personally try to take a pack of apples with me as in

experiments they've been shown to replesish your blood sugar levels

better than anything else, and gives a better wakeup cure than

a strong coffee. Failing that having one of those little innocent smoothie

drinks each morning does wonders.

Hope this helps guys and girls!

-D

This is based on me wearing 1 pair of shorts and my trainers for traveling (as well as sunglasses).

Camping Chair

Flag

Flag Pole

Wee Flag Buttons

Cosy Camper Blanket

Camera

2 x Camera Batteries

Mobile Phone

2 x Phone Batteries

Resealable Bags

Clothes & Toiletries

Welly Boots

5 x Boxers

5 x Trainer Liners

3 x Welly Socks

5 x T-Shirts

1 x Shorts

Gap Hoodie

Jirkin (Scottish word for a lightweight, waterproof jacket)

Toilet Bag – Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Soap, Razor, Shave Gel, Deodorant, Hair Wax, Aftershave, Anadin Extra, Sun Block, Hand Gel.

Towel

Baby Wipes

2 x Compact Loo Roll

1 x L Kick

8 x Filled Deli Rolls (sausage, chicken etc)

6 x Quavers

Plastic Cups

Large 3L bottle (Robinsons diluting juice type one)

Other notes... no jeans. Took them last year and only put them on once and really wasn't that comfy in them. Obviously this is a personal choice, but it's quite a bit of space really.

No BBQ, did this last year and was a lot of hassle for basically one meal.

Flag... only to locate tent, unlikely to take this to the arena.

I personally would go lighter on the clothes than the OP, one T a day (+ 1 spare), 1 shorts, 1 combats, hoody, waterproofs, socks, grundys, hiking boots

The main thing I'd add are dry bags, I've used Exped (search for them on Amazon) and Alpkit, and would recommend the Alpkit ones (cheaper as well!). A 1l to keep keys, watch, money, ticket etc in the lock up, and then bigger ones to keep clean clothes dry right through the week no matter how damp it gets. You can use a medium one with a jumper / jacket in as a pillow as well.

Couple of other things - aluminium water bottle, wind up radio, and pepperami :)
