Stuff the crowds were doing

As a festival newbie I may been a lil naive but can you answer me this?

1- Why were groups of people walking round shouting out random names as though they were looking for someone. And trust me they werent. It was very annoying when you are trying to get sleep at 4am

2- Another thing groups of people were doing is holding their hands up and making a duck shaped thingy and quacking. Saw this happen all over site.

1. It's just one of those festival 'things', no real reason behind it other than it's a fun thing to do. Ive been known to yell out a random Alan at 4.00am from within my tent, in response to someone else doing it.

2. I have no clue.

2. When you are trying to find your friends in a big crowd you all stick your hand up and make a duck moving from side to side quacking and hope they find you. We've moved on to little rocking devils as everyone quacks now

Hey Hattie thats a good reason to do it. Our group all just held their hats ups and jumped round in circles.

The quacking is a lot less effort.

I wondered what the quacking was about, when I saw people doing it I thought it was a game so joined in.

The Alan thing comes from that BBC programme 'Walk on the Wild Side' with talking animals....think it's meerkats that say it or something.

Some of our group were going around doing it.....was funny most of the time but not when they were doing it about 4.30am Monday morning!

Alan has replaced Dan, which is sad, because at least Dan was actually funny. A bunch of meerkats saying Alan was funny for 30 seconds.

We hand quack, but we don't actually verbally quack!

I didn't hear any name calling!

But I did hear and was part of by proxy, the most epic 'BOGEYS!!!!' screaming session one night (Thursday?) up around Cockmill and maybe in crew camping next door. My kids were in heaven.

Dick and Dom would have been proud.

I think the random name calling could lead to unnecessary stress amongst the parents/concerned folk that a person called Dan, Josh or Alan might actually be lost.

Next year I think names such as Fred Dibnah, Miriam Stoppard and Eddie the Eagle should be shouted instead.

A short fat prairie dog (family rodent) from the USA looks NOTHING like a tall thin meerkat (family mustelid) from Africa.

Compare the meerkat...compare the prairie dog...Simples!
