Campervan Field Question

We maybe considering wanting to camp in the Campervan Fields next year due to various reasons and have been looking into hiring/borrowing a camper or trailer tent...Then we had another idea but don't know if its viable...

We already own a large tent (4 bedrooms) that is really too huge to carry to a normal campsite on site plus our child (maybe 2 by then) SO is it possible that if we arrived with this large tent packed in a trailer and had paid for a campervan pass that we would be allowed to pitch in the field with other trailer tents?

I've read about people who pitch normal tents next to their friends trailer tents/campers so is this allowed?

We would really like to find out the rules and would never just turn up cos the risk may be high of not getting in :O

I think to park in the campervan field you need something with beds and then either bathroom or cooking facilities (permanent) - which means motorhome, caravan or trailer tent. Once there you can pitch a tent also - but the 'rules' on the Glastonbury site say no 'tents' alone (or something similar)

I think you would need something with fitted sleeping and/or washing facilities to go with the tent or you might struggle to be let in. When we arrived they were checking quite thoroughly what people were arriving in. The stewards were getting in most vans to see what facilities they had.

You would indeed need purpose-built fitted sleeping facilities and either fitted cooking or washing facilities. Any converted vehicles must clearly be live-in vehicles. The campervan site staff and security staff check every vehicle that campervans and caravans coming into the fields have bona fide living accommodation.

I saw a large family tent being taken down at the request of security - so only small satellite tents are allowed in the space you are allocated.

We arrived on Tuesday this year and no one was checking if your van was suitable or not. On the way in we were behind a small white Ford panel van which we assumed was just delivering stuff onto site because it clearly wasn't a camper. We ended up being camped next to them and apparently the van has a little cooker which sits on a shelf in the back can sleep 1 but its really uncomfy. They just pitched 3 tents (one of which was MASSIVE) and slept in those. They only seemed to open the van when they wanted the cooker.

I had a quick look inside and its pretty obvious that its never practial to use as a camper (especially as they are a family of 3 and all pretty large/tall), if a steward had looked inside I think they might have struggled to justify it as a live in camper. They said they use it every year and have never once been checked though.

I would say you'd struggle though with a car and normal trailer.

Just like to say the that those people have been extremely lucky to have got in, let alone every year since the stricter campervan rules. Anyone tempted, please don't be, if theres a surefire way of being refused entry at the beginning of your fest its turning up in a dodgy old van that obviously is'nt a campervan. If this happens, your vehicle will have to be parked in the normal car park (extra £££'s) and you'll be inside with the rabble with your tents! :P

On the subject of extra living space, yes one tent is allowed, as well as your vehicle awning as long as it does'nt take the pis with space. If your stuff takes up more than one pitch then be prepared to shell out extra dosh. I normally have a small transit campervan with 3m awning as well as a large three room tent. I still have some garden space and I'm probably just over the pitch limits but I've never had any hassle.
