That f******* advertisment

In fairness I use noscript for a lot more reasons than simply getting rid of ads. Its a hell of a handy application to keep your computer secure when browsing the internets.

Its not aimed against ads alone - its aimed at every script that a website decides to run whilst you are looking at it - you dont even get a visible website when you first visit one. Its a pain in the ass to be honest for the first few weeks after installing it as you have to set up each website you visit. I wouldnt even have known there were ads on this site if I hadnt seen all the threads with people complaining.

Why insult your customers/users?

they're not customers or users if they're using ad-blocks. They're freeloaders.

You're getting good feedback here that the new forum format isn't very good.

It's only "good feedback" if it's good feedback. Non-constructive comments are not good feedback.

The ads are incredibly intrusive and annoying, the pages take a long time to load, etc.

The ads pay for these forums, and without them these forums will not exist. Pages are far quicker to load than a page that can't be loaded. ;)

Yes, it really is that simple. eFestivals can no longer subsidise End of the Road or any other festival.

And obviously you have to make money.

It would be great if I did do.

I think it's fair enough to consider working 70+ hrs every week 52 weeks a year for much less than minimum wage as not really "making money". I very much doubt you'd work for the little I do, but you say you want me to work for even less. ;)

It ain't gonna happen. I only have one set of life savings to throw at this, and that happened years ago. The cupboard is bare. Things pay their way, or they go.

But you could surely do so in a less intrusive way (look at similar sites, say, Songkick or last.fm - Songkick doesn't have ads, last.fm has much less intrusive advertising).

I'm not such a **** as to rip off the music biz for years and for millions (I could have done, I declined to do so) - something they've both done by operating outside of music licencing for a part of their existence, and which has enabled them to do what they currently do. It won't last tho, so don't go thinking that it will do.

I'm one of these rare breeds that feel people should pay for what they use (tho even so the likes of you have benefited from the tens of thousands I've contributed for the benefit of EotR and others). If others have a similar sense of reasonableness then things can continue, but if not then they can't and won't.

But now you do know, what are you going to do? ;)

I know what I'm going to do, but you might not like it and you don't have to like it. But if freeloading is consequence free, then efestivals is done for anyway, so there's nowt to lose.

I'm not in the market to buy a Toyota, and The Week isn't my bag especially, so the adverts wash over me like most tend to (I like to think). I'm afraid I don't know the history of efestivals to appreciate fully the effort and cost it all entails - I imagine most users of the web consider a forum to almost be autonomous, which I'm sure isn't the case, but the reality is that ads will always irritate folk. I'm more wary of sites such as Facebook which can do the whole Minority Report style targeted marketing thing, or maybe I just haven't installed the right filter there either. Chin up Mr/Ms Efestivals

I'm not expecting people to rush out and buy a toyota, calgon, or anything else. I am expecting people to respect that the ads pay for the service, no different to their acceptance of TV ads.

I get where people are coming from about the ads, I dislike having to have them no less than others find them an annoyance. But the facts of life mean that if people aren't getting the ads then these forums simply cannot exist.

I could shut these forums down and be quids in (and not have to suffer some of the more ridiculous comments). Given the fuss that some have made over one extra ad that doesn't stop anyone doing what they want to do here, I guess that they'd be much more fuss if these forums disappeared entirely, but perhaps I'm wrong. ;)

Those are the only options available.

Adverts are a fact of life. I'm more than willing to put up with them if they maintain this service, hope they do.

Also when the forums first changed they were very hard to read but that seems to have changed somehow and now I quite the colour scheme.

Thanks for responding. A few (overlong?) comments. I'm honestly trying to be constructive here, because I like what you do - I wouldn't even bother typing this if I didn't value the site. Also want to stress I don't and never have used Adblock (anywhere).

I don't think I have, or can, get used to the new format. My number of postings has gone through the floor since the new format, I just don't like it. Negative comments ARE feedback, eFestivals, unless you just want people to buff up your ego. If the new format wasn't enough to keep me away then your "you should be grateful to poor little hard-working me" attitude certainly is. I've seen other forums wither on the vine due to the moderators' attitude, and at the end of the day there are plenty of other places on the Internet to discuss festival matters.
