Forget Specsavers; you should have gone to GLASTONBURY!

Hi All,

Having just returned from one of the best weeks of my life at Glastonbury  I am intrigued as to why people would choose another festival over the legendary daddy of them all - Glasto? In my humble opinion all the other 'dirty festival' would never be a patch on it, so considering they are all around the same price, why oh why would you not choose to come to Glastonbury??

Have the majority of people going to other festivals also been to Glasto? What are your thoughts? How do u compare them? What about people who simply think Glasto aint for them....? Crazy!

Obviously if you tried and failed to get a ticket then this is fair enough, but seriously people cant prefer to go to V, Leeds, Reading etc over the Glastonbury??

Thoughts on a postcard.

Glasto is good but V is a ritual for us. It's a DAMN sight easier to get to, a reliable lineup which we know in advance (sorry no interest in watching Willie Nelson or Rolf Harris). Glasto obviously can pull out the big guns, would have been delighted to have bought tickets and seen U2 there, but certainly wouldn't choose Gorrilaz (or Stevie Wonder for that matter) over either Kasabian or Kings of Leon.

Plus of course there's the mud. You had a lucky year this time; and Staffs certainly isn't immune but Chelms site seems to be *relatively* mudless even when it rains.

The crowds are still pretty different, though I think the demographics are getting more similar every year. Glasto is more of a 'mission' (not just to get tickets) whereas V is load up the car, pop up the road, know exactly what we're getting.

Different strokes for different folks :)

I may enter the Glasto lottery next year though.

Edit: And yes I've been to both. My festival virgin mate would struggle to be convinced of Glasto cos I think he's still of the mindset of mud and crusty hippies, whereas the commercialness and 'safe'ness of V was an easier sell for him.

  • 4 weeks later...

Like you Dirty Dave, I'm a total Glasto addict and was only unable to attend this year due to severe lack of funds - however we're going to V this year as we won (!) VIP tickets in a competition.

I have no idea what to expect of V, as I imagine I've always been 'spoilt' with the wonders of Glasto, which seems to be a far more rounded 'experience' (Shangri la, stone circle, the Glade, circus, comedy tent, open mic, discos, impromptu jamming sessions, arts&craft, aromatherapy, juggling, poi etc etc), rather than a focus being purely on music.

I'm hoping there are post-music performance night time activities to entertain me, but all I've heard about is the silent disco...?

I spose the benefits to V are that it's much smaller and therefore more self-contained, easier to find your way, less easy to lose people, probably a bit safer.

However I am a little worried I'll find it a bit 'tame' to Glasto - then again, maybe I'll be surprised!! Go on V, prove me wrong!!!

P.S I must add that I'm very very grateful to be going at all, as this year would have been festival free and I'd have been very sad! :P

ever thought that the ticket process may have a tad to do with it????? I myself have been to 4 Glasto's and yes it is brilliant & I love it, but V is it's own festival so I ask have you been???
