Forget Specsavers, you should have gone to GLASTONBURY!

Personally, I have nothing against people who want to go somewhere to have a good time - but then it depends entirely on what one means by having a good time. A good time to some people, as you pointed out Dave, is starting fights with security and then setting fire to people's tents. To others it might be the whole "I love you - peace!" thing and then setting fire to your chinese lantern. Either way, fire is usually involved, and both are equally annoying - especially when the peace and love usually involves signing up to some god-awful "save the fair trade South African land fish!" campaign at some point. At least chavs have the honesty to steal your money without a damn campaign.

People go to different places and take different experiences from both. It all depends on what type of attitude you yourself bring to the festival just as in the real world outside of the festival bubble the type of place you live in depends on what type of attitude you bring to it.

Putting all this name calling aside, if you could only afford one festival a year (in reality most people can now days) and have been to Glasto and R/L festivals in the past, would you choose R/L for the quality lineup (personally i have never thought it was that good, V seems to be better) or Glasto for the general amazing Festival experience?

There are alot of Pro's n Con's, but as you say its each to their own.

People don't seem to realise that Glasto isn't just about the music though. When people say they go and only see three bands for the whole weekend, it isn't because there wasn't anyone they wanted to see, it was because there's so much other stuff to do. You could go, literally not see a band, and still have an amazing time.

No, everyone realises, if for not other reason than dullards come on here annually to f**king go on and on and on about it

And what the Glasto snobs don't realise, or seemingly refuse to accept, IS that for SOME people, the music is the main reason they go to a music festival, for them it is ALL about the music and that is perhaps why they prefer Reading over Glastonbury

The simply fact is, until you have been to Glastonbury; you just dont get it!! Fact! Enough Said.

...and with regards to the hippy-bashing. If i had to chose between being a peaceful 'loved-up' hippy or a chav 'pissing up everything vertical / setting tents on fire / lets go start fights with security scum bag ....i know which way i would turn!

Peace and Love.

Dave ;)

Since I go to a music festival purely for the music (inb4 Glasto's not a music fest etc.), Readings lineup shits all over Glastos this time round. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of genres and the fact that Glastonbury normally integrate so many different types of music, but when that diversity means Vampire Weekend, Shakira and Scissor Sisters I draw the line. Glastos lineup last year was incredible and probably the best recent lineup I've seen, I was gutted I didn't go.

3) with so much going on at Glasto I reckon I'd feel a tad overwhelmed so I stick to the less is more theory

6) would have had to go on my own as none of my friends are ever up for Glasto (I could well make my debut next year though)

7) Laziness. All that walking... Meh.

10) because I wanted a round number of reasons I didn't go.

how do you know the crowd is full of w*nkers? you have such a negative opinion of something you've never even been to.. it's unlikely you'll enjoy yourself with that attitude. maybe just reserve judgement til you've actually seen it? a few things could be improved but it is a pretty good festival.

thought about glasto but really I love the music at reading and none of the bands I like play glasto. I never do anything else apart from watch bands and drink really - except the silent disco. none of my friends like glasto.

i'll probably go one year but I'd hope to be off my tits in the dance tent for the whole weekend :)

Okie Dokie.

I've been going to Leeds since the very first one. I still really enjoy it every year, that's why I go back. The line up isn't as to my tastes as much as it used to be but I still find plenty of acts to see and I like the ease of getting around the site to see acts and although it does have an increasing ammount of w*nkers they are still the minority and normally it's a decent crowd.

This year was my first Glasto and it blew my mind! For years I wasn't interested in Glasto and never thought I'd enjoy it more than Leeds but I certainly did. I was happy only seeing a handfull of bands as there was so much else to see and do. I loved wandering through the Greenfields because it was so peaceful, unlike anything I've experienced at a festival. the night time entertainment can't be rivalled. Arcadia, Shangri La, Block 9 and The Unfair Ground are just amazing, words can't explain them you just have to see it. the overall feel of the festival is great as well, everyone is friendly and there's a great mix of people. Everything is so laid back and has to be experienced to be believed.

However, although I enjoyed Glastonbury immensly I hate the glastonbury snobbery that goes on in these forums. the one up manship is sad and pathetic. I enjoy both fests for different reasons. At Glastonbury I can take my time and only see a few acts and leave happy whereas at leeds i can dart around and see plenty of acts that I want to see and have a laugh afterhours. Glastonbury is a completely diffent entity to R&L and not really comparible. It would be more fair to compare them to V or TITP which tehy shit all over.

Like plenty of people have pointed out, it really is horses for courses. If you want to see al the big acts go to Leeds, if you want an amazing and different experience give Glastonbury a go.

Glastonbury is a lot better than Leeds, but that doesn't mean Leeds isn't good in it's own way. Leeds is a much more simple festival though, which does have it's charms. I love just sitting and bantering round a campfire for example.

We took a mate to Glastonbury this year who'd done Leeds twice and no other festivals. By mid-afternoon THURSDAY he decided Glastonbury was a vastly superior festival, kinda shows what people mean when they say it's not about the music.

Anyway, if I could only choose 1 it would be without a doubt Glastonbury, but I can do both so will. Give it a few years though I might stop Leeds, I felt old last year and I was only 19
