Oxfam 365 vs Oxfam

I've just had two lads from Oxfam 365 at the door - who told me that Oxfam 365 don't receive funding from Oxfam - and have to raise their own funds! Is this correct does anyone know?

I'm very surprised that the emergency relief work isn't funded by the more commonly known Oxfam!

Do they have their own charity number? If not, defo part of Oxfam and these guys were talkin out of their bumbums.

Personally I don't see the need for the current multitude of charities, especially the damn street urchins that try to get you to sign a direct debit on the spot <_<

Keep it simple, and people might be more inclined to give :)

I like to think im pretty generous when giving to charity and regularly put money in charity boxes. However a few things annoy me about charities. Mainly those people trying to get the direct debits who are often on commision. Also charities who get your address and harass you via phone and mail. Yes christian aid, I mean you. Out fo principal I wont give money to any charity collector who is getting comission.

I have recently started voluntering at my local Oxfam shop so will ask this when i'm in at the weekend - it seems odd that they, esp as the link you provided takes you straight to a section in the main Oxfam website and the same charity number is displayed at the bottom of each page.

I spoke to someone last year about this when I was renewing my subs. I was told that the funds for the 365 are earmarked for the warehouse supplies and purely for emergency relief, and it is a stand alone fund seperate from the main Oxfam. Essentially a source of supplies and ready cash when needed. Any money you give for the 365 goes in that pot and is not swallowed up.

I would hazard a guess that all the admin etc comes out of the main budget though.

for every pound a charity invests in a newspaper they get a pound back

for every pound a charity invests in a television commercial they get two pounds back

for every pound a charity invests in ones of those "urchins" you're talking about, they get eight pounds back

so what if they get commission? they have to put up with cocks like the above who look down on them for doing a job that helps others, everyones gotta eat <_<

I don't mind having an informative chat with these people and then possibly making a gift donation based on the info given, but all they do is bombard you with scripted facts & guilt tactics, half of them don't even believe the cause they are gunning for.

I have had a girl at the door within the last half an hour telling me exactly the same. I can't understand why it does not come from the main Oxfam budget. She told me certain things they do that I have read that Oxfam do on their main site. She wanted a regular donation, but I am afraid I am unable to sign up in that way as I am a pensioner. I have just in the past week made a gift donation to them, and I also donate to the organisation run by my church. One can only give so much.
