ampersand
But in fairness, we can apply that to quite a few. John Bishop: "Hahahahaha I'm a scouser so that makes me instantly hilarious"
Sparticus
Bishop is kind of funny though, the Scouse doesn't define him, he just throws in some gags about it. I dont think Dara Ó Briain is that funny anyway. Hes a pro, very polished, very mainstream. P.S. There is only one funny Irish stand up - Dylan Moran. All the rest are piss poor. Ardal O'Hanlon isnt the worst I suppose.

Langdale Wolf
Christmas specials were on last night. Haven't seen them in a while. Still absolute genius.

Langdale Wolf
Loved that bit. While we're on Brent, Ricky Gervais and Stephan Merchant say that David Brent wasnt a bad person, just a twat. They say the only person who was nasty in the whole thing was Finchy. I dont agree with that - I think Brent wasnt a nice person at all until after he met that woman in the Christmas special. Also, the only time he seems like a genuine human who isnt totally self centred is when Dawn comes back for Tim and they walk off together. The look he gives the camera is brilliantly done, like hes been waiting for that moment the whole time - its a sort of "justice has been done" moment. Apart from that though, hes not a "nice" character.

Purple Monkey
The ending to the Office is one of the most genuinely happy endings of all time, because it was hugely vindicating and above all, about truth. Again, Gervais and Merchant proved their class in that they both fully understand that comedy isn't actually about witty gags and deliverring punchlines; the key to great comedy is really about truth. Cardboard Box City
Curious... A thread about comedy that includes the words 'Office', 'Ricky' and 'Gervais' but not 'overrated'... Strange.

t8yman
Jeffries is a brilliant stand up. Saw him last year. Loved the fact that he wasn't content to rehash old material like the Mock The Week crowd (Howard and Boyle in particular) and told a group of guys down the front to f**k off when they kept asking for the "egg up the arse" story...he then went on to tell a painfully hilarious (and at times touching) story about taking a friend with MD to a brothel. ampersand
Gervais' stand up is very weak, approaching complete shit. I think that makes it easy for people to have a pop at him.
t8yman
gervais as a bloke - is a legend. his stand up is poor, but I love his outlook on life, and the conversation he had with robert runcie on 5 live was brilliant.
