PC question,anybody help please?

I`ve got me laptop and the PC tower/s have now been obselete and stood there doing nowt yeah?

However-- there are things on there which I`d like...and also all my iTunes stuff,which took months to put on etc. I havent got iTunes on here ---it seems this dongle shite just wont download the huge file?? Also--am thinking of the amount of space it would take up etc.

So-- my question is, can I plug the tower into me laptop...just the tower and not the keyboard or monitor (which is the size of yer Nannas tele)...and use this laptop as a keyboard and monitor and therefore access the stuff on the tower?

Make sense? If so--is it easy to do? What would i need?

This mobile broadband (as I`ve said) is absolute shite. I cant listen to any audio or watch any video or anything. Its worse than dial up.

You could network the two using ethernet crossover cable - trying to find a nice guide now...

what operating system do you use? xp? vista? 7?

Nope.

What you can do (hardware depending) is network the two together, and on your tower allow access to the disk (or the parts you want to access - tho you could do that by moving the data you're after to the shared part designed for this sort of thing) from your laptop.

To network them together they'd both need network cards properly installed, and then you'd need a crossover-network cable if you linked them directly, or a standard network cable if linked via a router.

They'd then perhaps (depending how they're setup) be need to change a few settings so that the laptop is able to access the tower's disk.

Alternatively - and this is dependant on which version of windoze you have installed (it comes as standard in XP Pro, but might not be in XP home) - you could remotely operate the tower from the laptop using Windows Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop can be a bit fiddly to get working tho. It would still need both PCs linked together via a network.

cough and splutter...I`ll get me coat... I was hoping for a reply such as..yes,get yersell to PC World and buy a cable XP JoinyJoinythe2 and thats all yer need.

Networking? fiddly? Might not work... OMG, I shall continue on shopping for my ingredients for my Luxury Fish Pie and dismiss any notions I had of seeing my 3000+ cds on iTunes ever again.

Thats pretty shit eh.

If you dont fancy setting up a network just buy a cheap external hard drive and stick all your music from the towers on there. Can pick up decent ones for about 30 quid - probably worth it if you have 3000+ cd's.

All you need is an external drive enclosure. Take the drive out of the old tower, put it in there and plug it into your laptop. Fetch it round if you want.

Smogs---well actually I do have one of those external hardware capers...bought with the intention of storing all the pics on which were beggininng to take up so much space.

Thing is... I would like to sort of err... just have me iTunes back!! so i can sync and add new CDs I`ve now got...because of course since being made redundant (the tower) i have not added any new music to my iPod.
