One square mile completely destroyed, 80,000 people killed instantly and maybe 140,000 people dead. Took 45 seconds. Changed the face of war, international relations forever.

Interestingly, at one stage during the Vietnam War they were dropping the same amount of bombs per week as explosives contained in the Hiroshima bomb.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi - possibly the luckiest/unluckiest man ever.

He was on business in Hiroshima when the first bomb was dropped, and despite his injuries, started back at work in his home town of Nagasaki on the day the second bomb was dropped.

Died earlier this year of stomach cancer, aged 93.

This is true. I merged the two names in my excitement.

Interestingly, these days, give or take a day or two, is also the dates of the Manson murders. something eveil in the air in August methinks. Hurricane Katrina, Princess Di.
