Rain/mud and the loss of dignity

The full on muddy years are hard work. It varies between just damp to full on liquid mud, depending on where on the site you are and of course how much rain there's been. But as a general rule, you can't sit down, you have to be careful, as there are things lurking in the mud and holes to trip you up, and you risk losing your shoes. Not nice. But on the plus side (and there is one you know!) people tend to be a lot more careful and considerate of others. But its never (no, not even the infamous monsoon years)spoilt the festival!

The mud of 2007 made me cry, which is not something im fond of doing.

The sheer effort of traipsing through mud and trying to stay dry was exhausting.

Thankfully I didn't go in 2005.

I didn't go again until this year and the difference that a bit of sunshine can make was amazing.

the worst thing is the divets and bumps you cant see and that you slip into or over ect that just makes it so dangerous especially when pissed i smashed my ankle in 2009 thank god it was a good year this year

If you are the type of person to become 'fed up' if your tent gets soaked then it will be a bit of a pisser for you.

In short, yeah it can be hard work. You can end up being hacky and soaked when you get back to your tent but if you're alright with this then you'll be fine. It's something that you get used to anyway.

For me, the only real bad bit is the fact it takes a lot longer to get from one place to the next but like I say; you get used to it.

If this is something that you're considering being a factor or whether or not you go then don't. Just bring wellies, a towel and a waterproof jacket and you'll be fine

P.S. Someone made a good point about the chair....always handy to brong one particularly to the pyramid field if there is a run of good acts on.

  • 3 weeks later...

It is, really really hard work, takes a lot of drugs (ibuprofen obviously) and alcohol to keep going.

Anyone who ever said that going to festivals was easy hasn't ever been (even in the heat this year for obviously different reasons).
