Guide and foster a responsible social attitude, and teach self discipline and the ability to make their own well-reasoned decisions, I'm sure you meant to say. A social conscience needs nurturing and developing. Trying to force yours onto someone else will end in tears and probable failure.

I strongly believe that an element of control is required.. If we are out for a meal and the kid think its time to kick off, start answering and so on so forth... You better believe control will be re-establish :)

If the kid doesn't want to go to her piano lessons... Well, it isn't an option...

Doesn't want to go to school.. again, your going...

That's not fair, we should be supportive of Pogo. He's about to take up the job he'll be doing for rest of his life and is already up against it, as he's dangerously under qualified to be pushing trolleys in ASDA's carpark.

Lessons once a week, then make her practice for at least 10 minutes every day and if she doesnt practice she doesn't get her pocket money. And start her young :)

Music is the best gift i was given as a child. I just wish i'd practiced more when i was a kid :/

Well considering in my GCSES i had an A in music (one mark off an A*) and B in maths and science, i reguard it more important than maths. I had my results a day before my grandpa died and he was so happy about my music grade he didn't even know or care what other results i had!!
