Whats the V's vibe

Hi Guys,

This is the first time that I have been to V and I am thoroughly looking forward to it. I have been to Glastonbury for the last ten years and this will be the first festival I have been to other than Glasto. I understand v is going to be smaller which is not a bad thing. I've been trying to do a bit of research and was hoping you guys could help me out. I can't get to the campsite til late Friday night, will I have any trouble in finding a camping space (going to Chelmsford)I only ask because with Glastonbury all the good spots are gone by lunchtime the day the site opens. Also what happens after 11 when all the bands finish? I've seen on the website something about the village, is this similar to Shangri la etc at Glasto i.e a late night destination and if so what goes on there and does it it get very busy. I think im right in saying that I can take my own alcohol into the "arenas", If I run out can I go back to the tent to get more, and if so is it far. Any info on what I will find different good and bad to Glatonbury will be much appreciated.

Thanks

hello,

you can take your own booze into the campsite but not the arena, they are super strict on this.

once the bands finish there isnt a great deal that goes on - although not as bad as previous years.

they have films showing throughout the night in one of the tents in the arena, there is now a fairground which is open until about 12.30 i think.

anywhere playing music is usually finished about the same time so its case of making your own entertainment.

as for getting there on the friday, you should be fine but if there are a few of you - you might struggle to find enough space to camp with each other.

Be prepared for a massive culture shock. Most festivals, like V, have camping outside the arena, in Glasto terms camping is outside the super-fence and you'll go through security each day to get in. V is also very corporate, so within the arena definitely no booze, no "open" bottles of any kind, and no sealed bottles above 1 litre. Most bars (though this has apparently improved) require tokens, so you queue for tokens, then queue for the bar, then queue for the loo! (not that using the actual loos is a requirement). In simple terms, anything they can make you buy, they'll stop you bringing in. Start planning ways to sneak booze in!

Which campsite are you in? Yellow didnt fill at all (by glasto standards) when I was last there, but thats a few years back, they opened a second field late friday and it was near empty. There was NOTHING to do once the headliner finished, but I'm hopeful thats improved a bit. I suspect you can forget about anything Shangri-la-like though.

I go to Glastonbury for the experience, I go to V for the music.

Pommysam - I'm the same as you, never V'd it before, just Glasto for the last five years. Sounds like it's a lot more corporate and strict than Glasto.. will have to think of ways to sneak alcohol in - I'm in vip area so hoping that perhaps security will be less tight!! Either that or I'll have to buy me one of these!!

Wine rack!!!

Maybe it's Glasto that's unusual and all the other fests are standard!

Re entertainment after the music itself, I've heard there's a silent disco - is this true? And an 'indie' band night on Friday eve? Hoping we can find some post-music stuff to do, as that's usually when you have the most fun anyway!

Are there any comedy/open mic tents at all? Anywhere where people sit to while the night away with instruments, poi and bonfires?!

Am sure will be ace whatever, but will be praying for extra-curricular nightime activities!
