Coming from newcastle early doors on friday morning(setting off about 4.30am). What's the best way to avoid the worst of the traffic. Down the m6? Or m1/a38/a5? Or m1/a42/m42/a5? Used m6 last time but got stuck queuing for hours. Is approaching from a5 wstbound any better?

What time would anyone recommend daytrippers arriving on Sat ? I know the queues for other festivals are a bit mad to say the least but should I aim to be there around 9ish or would that be too late, does anyone know?

Just wondering as I'm being dropped off so need to arrange the best time to be picked up beforehand

Cheers guys ;)

There's not usually much of a queue on the road tbh. We live about half an hour away and the first time we went we were really worried how long to allow so left at 9 to be on the safe side. We were in and parked up by half nine! But it was a nice day so we just mooched around and soaked up the atmosphere! We usually leave around tennish now and get there ok but last year the queue for non campers to get into the arena was mad - hope they've learned this year but I seriously doubt it - this is V after all! So leave when you like but when you get there you might want to join the queue for the arena early!

you're not supposed to be on here ionsy. I'm looking for people who've actually tried using the m1 and ultimately a5 route. not people who can't see beyond the absolute joy of a day out on the m6. Besides if you look at the replies somebody said the other roads are ok if you avoid the m6. p.s seeing rob the morra to sort out the rest of the camping gear

We live just over an hour away. We left at 8.30 last year and arrived in the car park arond 12pm. we we all set up in gold campsite by 12.30 with loads of room left over. It was fairly full though by around 5pm. So, if you leave early enough, you will still be in a queue of traffic, but there will be more behind you than in front.
