My travel from deepest Hertfordshire in to london is £72 per week thats just into the mainline train station - i find its cheaper to use Oyster than get a travelcard if you are only making 2 journeys by tube or bus a day. Or alternatively you could use one of boris' bikes! that is free for the first 30 mins. And costs about £40 a year to register i think.

I am seriously considering giving up my job to do something else, like write a book, or get my food buisiness going, and the fact that travel prices are due to go up by 18% and i am not due to get a payrise because of the recession i think i might just do it!

I also travel from deepest Hertfordshire, but I go the other way... to Cambridge. Its pretty much exactly the same distance, but is only £40 instead of your £72. Just goes to show how much they hike the price up just because its London. Personally, I find that disgraceful.

The thing that annoys me is that you can't buy a 5-day season ticket, you have to buy a 7-day ticket.

As a non driver I'm pretty adept at playing the 'find the cheapest public travel ticket online' game. Am off to Beautiful Days fest via an overnight stay in Bognor from deepest East Sussex.

Southern Rail is having another one of its offpeak sales. Ok so its 25% off and not the juicy 50% they ran over last Xmas but its meant I've been able to get a single on a journey of about 50-60 miles for £11.70. If I'd travelled from Lewes it would have only been £8.35! Flipping bargain.

I don't blame the person posting who stated they may have to consider changing his job cos of travel costs. Good idea.
