plus who gives a f**k how acclaimed Arcade Fire are. The fact is they didn't draw a crowd... it was a shame... but there was f**kk all anyone there. This proves that populairty is not the only reason behind booking a headliner.

Anyone who says SG are not headliner worthy either don't really know music, the festival or did in fact like Blink-182 :P

I would be so happy if Blur played, but sadly I can't see it. The good news is with them already having played Glastronbury and TITP it would mean R&L would probably be the festival they play if they are doing festivals.

Do you not think they may take a look at the crowds Arcade Fire got and think perhaps to get more stable headliners eg. Muse, Metallica etc... Soundgarden do not fit in this. I've been going to Leeds since 1999 and I very much doubt Soundgarden could headline, if they did and were against someone like Pendulum like Arcade Fire were they'd get a shit crowd. You don't seem to realise the demographic of the festival has completely cahnged hence Smashing Pumpkins and Pixies both getting less than great crowds. You seem blinkered by your love of Soundgarden. They are an amazing band, no doubting it but they wouldn't get the crowds at R&L. I'm a massive Pumpkins fan but I realised it was a bad idea them headlining.

As for saying anyone who disagrees with you doesn't like music, load of bollocks.;)

I didn't say they would get a huge crowd. But they definatly would draw a crowd. They would draw the crowd The Pumpkins got, and Pixies got. These are still headlining acts. I just can't see how we can say "yeah this influential and popualr band from the 80s/90s can headline after their reunion, even if the crowd isn't Kings Of Leon big" and then say "except these ones". It's like saying System would be good headliners.... they are not a headlining at, but it's pretty much a fact they will headline when they come back. At very least sub to a very big headliner.

It's not that they disagree with me, it's more the fact of denying the populaity of a band for no reason.

I honestly don't believe the Soundgarden reunion would be as popular as other recent comebacks for the sole reason that Chis Cornell has never stopped playing Soundgarden songs both solo & with Audioslave. The magic of seeing 'Black Hole Sun', 'Spoonman' etc isn't there as much as the likes of Faith No More or Blink 182.

The most recent example of a big 90's band reuniting and playing Reading Festival is FAITH NO MORE. They headlined THE NME TENT. In their previous Reading appearence in 1990 they SUB-HEADLINED. If Soundgarden play they will also headline the tent, or possibly sub-headline to a less loyal crowd.

And the whole "They were announced after tickets were released", that just shows that Festival Republic had no plans to announce this band as a headline act for the festival. Remember how it was reiterated that Jamie T would not be the NME tent headliner? That space was always left open for Faith No More. And Melvin Benn said in 2008 that Mike Patton would be appearing in some form. Live Nation shared the band between Download and Reading in quite a shrewd way.

But why book a band that they're pretty sure would get a mediocre crowd? I completely agree that it's a damn shame an act like Soundgarden would get a shit crowd compared to someone like The Klaxons but that's the way the festival has gone. I would say Soundgarden are sub headliners, who wouuld they be below? I couldn't tell you.
