I've always maintained that to be a headliner you need something more than just good songs. It's why Oasis headlining any festival ever is always shit, even though they do have a set's worth of good tracks, and why Jay-Z can play one of the most memorable headline set's I've ever watched even if I didn't most of the tracks he played.

Libs may have had the crowd size and I loved every minute of it, but they lack that certain something that makes you a headliner, Dizzee had a huge crowd, doesn't mean he should ever headline any festival ever, same for Pendulum, they just lack a certain quality that gives a band "Headliner Status"

Yeah, I can't understand anyone who is passionate about their music buying the NME. It basically talks up bands who play a few bar chords whilst singing in regional accents about going to the pub. Anyone who sounds like Arctic Monkeys and/or The Libertines they present as "the next big thing" (for the following 15 minutes, that is) and the trendies lap it up because the magazine is like the bible for hipsters. And that's exactly it. It's a fashion accessory. What kind of music magazine has the likes of Noel Fielding and the cast from Skins on it's front cover?

Props to the earlier poster who mentioned Q. Gets slated for it's coverage of U2, Coldplay et al but covers a lot of genres and the degree of journalism is professional, unlike the tabloid stylings of the NME. It's a magazine for proper music fans and not just teenagers who want to find out who to look cool by pretending to like next.

People talk about nme and kerrang as if their job is to be independant. Their job is to make money, which is why they target the demographics who they think they can make money can. IN reality there is little difference by the bands loved by nme and kerrang. The bulk of both have major label backing, the right image and good marketing.

NME next week's special edition Arctic Monkeys comeback after last album collapse even though we NME said it was a much more mature sounding album.

Not really but i have never ever read so much contradictory shite in my life.

It'll all be The Libertines 3rd album talk until Christmas in NME magazine now

I just hate the NME's build them up knock them down mentality. They constantly big up bands, give them good reviews and then turn on them, totally slating them. It happens time and time again and sadly people believe what they read and bands end up dissapearing and breaking up.
