uber strict security on sunday

Did anyone get caught on the bad side of the security on sunday night? At our camp site (brown) there were two seperate groups camping who had fires going, nothing above knee height. Obviously they were banned so the fire guys came along and put the fires out. One of the guys from one of the groups had a big arguement with security, who argued back, but they went their seperate ways. No one was kicked out for it, and none of the guys re lit their fires. A little later, my mate lit a chinese lantern, also banned. About 5 security guys turned up and began aggressively enquiring as to who set it off, so my friend owned up without delay. They immediately evicted him without giving him time to grab any of his stuff, chucked him in a van and dropped him off at a tesco in town. I know rules are rules, and my friend broke them, but this seems heavy handed to me and when we spoke to other security guards they agreed. Just wondered whether this was an isolated case or whether other people felt they were harshly treated by security on sunday...

man that's stupid, A. lanterns shouldnt have been banned in the first place, B they were being set off every where and C, amazing how seemingly non trivial "crimes" such as fire starting are turned a blind eye to, but this case apparently not.

Maybe file a complaint against the security if you managed to get their shirt numbers?

I saw a guy get cautioned by the police for having E on him and he didn't get anything and that's a class A.

Yeah, they called it attempted arson! To be honest my mate is a really chilled out guy and he doesn't want to complain, but it shouldn't have happened. We had some girls in our group who were saying they should have took the rap because they wouldn't have kicked vulnerable girls out onto the street but I'm not so sure, these guys seemed really pissed off and were definitely out to kick someone out. It's just a shame, it was such an amazing weekend up until that point!

I was evicted from site at 12:30 for throwing a few bags of crisps to my friends standing a couple of metres away each bag was caught and eaten, but as i walked on to the main path outside the camp the police violently grabbed me held my arms behind my back and told me i was being evicted for throwing missiles i was not allowed to pick up any belongings. The security then treated me like dirt clearly infuriated by doing nothing wrong i shouted abit where a scottish gaurd swung at me but missed, then the woman filling the eviction form was the most patronising cow i have ever experienced and would not write my answers for not looking her in the eyes to which i protested, she then ironically shouted at me to not be so fcuking rude! once evicted i was forced to spend the night sleeping on a bench it was freezing and all the people leaving the festival seemed to just shout abuse and laugh at me some even soaked me with beer, it was the worst night of my life, the only people that tried to help were drug dealers and another italian criminal lurking outside the festival.

The more security the better i say why should people be scared to go asleep at night. The person you are on earlier about having ecstacy a caution is about right if he only had enough for himself. He has a criminal record for 5 years now and i think that is a quite severe punishment seeming as most jobs you go for do checks.I for 1 thought security was very good this year.Every1 moans about the sunday night riots and you can't have it both ways.As for the person who threw a bag of crisps if its true you got kicked out for that then yes that is pathetic.

My and my mate had this disposable BBQ and a load of meat left over, plus we were starving. We started the BBQ and this bloke with a hose came over and was like "No fires" and sprayed the BBQ. I was like "Nooooooooo!". Anyway, we tipped the water out and started it again (which took ages). We eventually got it going and another person came over and was like "You're not really supposed to have that, but we can see you're not causing trouble so it's fine". So we ate our food. We were just cooking our last two sausages and the first bloke came back and grabbed us and took us to the eviction place.

At this place was all the trouble makers who were being kicked out the festival. So we were waiting to be spoken to. My mate was ready to get all up in their face about it, but I knew that if he did we'd just be lumped in with all the idiots who really were causing trouble.

So the bloke with the form took my name and ask why we had been taken here. I said "we were cooking sausages on a disposable BBQ". He looked at me as if to say "what mong took you here just because of that". He basically said that we were being evicted from the festival and we couldn't go back and get our stuff. And by stuff I mean money, keys, cards, ipod, tent, clothes etc. Everything. My mate had £160 in cash in the tent.

I kept saying that I didn't mind leaving tonight, but I had to go and get my stuff. They kept saying there's nothing they can do. So I started getting concerned because I really couldn't leave without my stuff and I didn't know anyone else at the festival who could look after it for me. Eventually this woman working there helped sneak us back to our tent.

I'm definitely glad that they're stepping up the security. There was a definite improvement in behaviour, at least where I was camping. I don't really have too much to complain about, I was breaking the rules. It was just the prospect of not being able to get our stuff which was a bit much.

I was pleased to see that the raised security measures worked and prevented more trouble but at the end of the day if they are evicting you then why not let a person get his or hers belongings under supervision? They're very happy to make an example of people so what better example than a person packing there stuff at 0230 in the morning in the freezing cold to then leave. Great the increased rules and staff but surely there should be some disgresion and not so much strict liability. I wasnt with our group when they re-lit their fire 3 times on monday morning in an almost empty field and all my stuff was nearly dumped outside the front gate even though i wasnt even with the group at the point of involved. I just got the impression that the security wanted confrontation thus acted as extreme as they could at every oppurtunity. When i got back to the group it annoyed me but i just laughed as how facile the guy was being. Brilliant.

Well done security for preventing a lot of hassle on sunday night but lets have some common sense used on a case by case basis next year please!

It'll never be perfect, you'll always get some twats who are just angry at life itself and/or on a power trip. But on the whole I thought security were great this year. They used a lot of common sense where we were and spoke to everyone like they were actual human beings rather than like they shit on their shoe as in previous years. Guess what it worked as well? The kids near us who tried to start a fire on Sunday got told if they carried on they'd be kicked out and they didn't try anything after that. Gutted to hear about the guy who got kicked out for throwing crips, that's absolutely unbelievable, from Police no less??? You should contact the Independent Police Complaints Body right away.

Security were strict for a reason as the 'riots' on Sunday have been escalating over the last few years to the point where people will be seriously hurt. I had no issues with any security guards again this year as I stuck by the rules, even though our camp were extremely tempted to light a fire on Sunday as it was freezing.

Unfortunately for the guy throwing crisps to his mates some guards clearly lacked common sense as has been mentioned on this board. Your just best to keep your head down and enjoy the final night with your mates.

I can see this being an extremely rare occurrence, akin to saying that festival loud music should be banned because it damages your hearing. They look pretty and are really mesmerising, not banned in any other festival I have ever seen and I have never heard of any one getting hurt by a lantern.

I found the security at Reading to be very good actually, didnt really have much involvment with them however but certainly nicer and more friendly than the Glastonbury heavies.

Are you kidding!?!

Yeah it's extremely rare but it's still got a chance of happening, and in campsites as packed as R+L a fire could spread quite easily

I'm really wary of fires as I've seen someone's tent set alight whilst they were in it, the plastic melted onto their skin and gave them extreme burns

And you think it's fine cos they're pretty?

Bit of perspective please?

And on a smaller scale the metal frames can be dangerous to livestock

I'm all for them being banned
