GeeW
Hi There, Im interested in attending Glastonbury next year and was wondering how long the walk is from the car parks to the campsite entrance? Does it take long to do? Any response would be much appreciated. Cheers,
duggie20
all depends what time you get there and how far back in the car park you are if you are in for instance e1 or e2 you are close but it still took us 2 hours to get in this year and it was a pig in the heat
GeeW
Thanks for your reply. Aww god! Was it a 2 hour walk??!? Or did it take you 2 hours to walk to the campsite entrance and queue to get in? The big walks are terrible - especially with all the bags/tent etc! Ci Sgoti
I was in a car park that was the furthest away from the Gate (luck of the draw I guess as last year I was really close). I walked back to the car after pitching the tent and having a rest, it took me more than half an hour to walk back to my car. Hope that gives you some idea of the distance involved (note on the way back I wasn't carrying anything). I dont like to talk about the walk to get in with tent etc. Edited September 13, 2010 by Ci Sgoti
anoldhippie@60
Hi I parked near gate D and the car was a lot closer than when I parked in the car parks for Gate A. But as the others have said depnds how far they put you when you arrive. In 2009 it took 6hrs to get into the car parks. This year I arrived Tuesday night and it only took about 2hrs to get into the festival site so was 4hrs up on last year. There were some people who sat by the entrance to the festival site all night so they got in pretty fast.

pablo666
Hi there. Arrived at 8.ooam and we parked at west 51 car park and entered through gate A the walk took us 50 mins loaded UP with what we could carry the going was easy this year with the dry weather it could of been alot harder if it had been wet so bear this in mind for next year. LusciousLucy
I thought an hour to get from the furthest northern car park to Pedestrian Gate D at around midday on Wednesday carrying my gear was a long time. Turns out without queues and with a trolley it actually was only about 35 minutes on the return run back and that was from where we were camped in the south east of Park Home. The new route to PGD even from far off W52 on the far side of the A361 is a lot shorter and quicker I think than the previous routing to what was White entrance going up the inside of the car park. The trick, even though it might seem a good idea at the time, is NOT to totally overload your sack trolley on the first trip. You are at a far bigger risk of a blow out or wheel shear/loss if you try to carry too much on site at first (the 4+ crates of cider CAN wait!!! and NEVER bring bottles and bottles of bottled water...the water is very much drinkable on site funnily enough ). The trolley cemeteries that sit at the side of the walkways onto have to be seen to be believed! And dont forget to take into account the large sharp stones that constitute the hardcore that is laid down for the paths. And the mahoosive holes in the ground from the tractor tracks. Crap trolleys REALLY hate being taken to Glasto and then you really hate yourself for being a nit and buying such a shit trolly! Pneumatic tyres,a very good/solid axle, a lot of good bungees and clever packing will see you right. And arriving early helps too!

jeffie
We went for the Red Route as normal, but this year got parked in what felt like Gloucestershire! We were on the other side of the main road - that's never happened before. Year before had been a reasonable 25 minute stroll back to the car - this year was more like an hour long route march. I think it's the luck of the draw though. Have arrived later and been closer.
**claire**
We parked up at 8.00am & headed straight for PGA (I think), finally got on to site & started pitching the tent at 11.30am. Went back for a second load & finally got back to the tent at 3pm. Be prepared for a long wait in the queue, both times as there was no provision this year for a separate entrance for those people already with wristbands, you basically had to get back in the queue behind all the first-timers or try & get up the side of them & get abused! bluegel
Its not too far to walk, depends where you park really. I was working on the gates last year and some of the queues had over 3 hours waiting time to get in, so be prepared to wait around!
