Jesus is just a bit part FFS.

You can investigate fairies in the here and now, just as you can investigate god in the here and now. And if you do, you find zero for either.

Yet you credit one as at least a possibility while you rule the other out - yet there is no difference with either. They are both simply stories you've been told and nothing further.

Firstly, sorry for my Foursome last night...this bloody internet connection!!

Faith. Look, it is a pretty futile arguement between Believers & Non-Believers.

It is an individual thing. I got involved with the church around 1985--got right into it. I`d always been "searching" for something spiritual (still am) and jumped in with both feet.

What I seen then of a lot of people with faith was quite uplifting. They didnt seem to worry about the things i was worrying about at that time, and seemed a lot happier and contented with life. I wanted that peace in my life.

We were proper on the bones of our arse then and the genorosity of the congregation and the love and support they gave was tremendous.

Based on that I always think of religion at a base level as just being kind to ones fellow men.

Very simplistic maybe, but when I read the arguements on here---going into all this "technical" detail about existance and such like... well it doesn`t bother me.

I believe that a person called Jesus did actually live. I dont quite buy the handed-down-over-generations tales of walking on water etc..but I do believe he somehow motivated a lot of people (maybe in a Nelson Mandela way)..and became revered...and became more famous after his death aka Hendrix,Lennon, Van Gogh etc.

Lets face it...over the centuries, The Church has consistently been the most powerful organisation in existance. Why? Cos its always been there--leaders come and go...but the Church has mostly been constant.

Its not quite like that now eh. And its only been perhaps since the end of WW2 that the church has really declined.

What I cant understand though about Religion is when I see atrocities being commited and the perpetrators claim they are doing Gods Will

I always think, God surely doesn`t want that?

Based on that I cant empathise with their cause.

Religion is in your heart...you either believe or you dont.It is simply wrong to call each other for your beliefs.

Tea and biscuits anyone?

Look at the Birds of the air.

They neither sow nor reap,

Yet the Good Lord looks after them.

Who, by worrying

will add a single hour

to their lives.

No. Religion is about God, Christianity, Judaism, Islam all believe in God. Christianity is based on the New Testament, the teachings and message of Jesus (The Gospels), the belief that Jesus died for our sins. Its God in a broader sense yes, but Christianity is a lot more specific. But just as stupid.

Yes, religions are about god. Christianity is about a specific idea of god, as are each of the others.

The idea of god for Christians is one that's based around what Jesus is supposed to have done, but it's still not about Jesus. Jesus *was* god - making it about god, and not Jesus.

You left-footers have it all wrong. :P

i don't know why some of you are so offended by atheists

if you told me the bogie man was real, but you have no proof either way, am i supposed to believe in it just because you tell me it's real? and if i don't believe it, it's ok for me to say "it's not real."

then why can't i say, as a matter of fact, that god isn't real? why should i have the slightest belief in something that you have no proof for?
