I remember being told that catholic priests were originally allowed to marry, but the church realised that if they didn't get married then when they die all their belongings, properties etc. would be left to them and that's how catholic church 1st started getting money.

Not sure if it's true though.

I pointed out to Den that the language he was using was homophobic - I didn't initially suggest he was, just his language. Den, however, went on to suggest two men cuddling up shouldn't be allowed on telly. He defended this position - very seriously - by tellling me he came from the north east and because they dont have gay people in the north east he wasn't used to it.

Explain that as not homophobic.

Y`know---they said about 75000 punters turned out today... and all of em will be feeling "fulfilled,elated,blessed,energised" you name it.

So, in that sense, why criticise it?

The same amount of punters fill Old Trafford in the form of another religion.

It slightly unnerves me that quite a lot of the "strong things" that most of the country were united about 60/50/40 yrs ago now seem very diluted eg Royal Family.

I`m no Royalist at all--- but they dont upset me in the same way they seem to annoy the younger folks.

I overheard some teenagers talking today...and they were slagging the polis off something not right.

Whilst I can understand it to some degree.... what society are we becoming when perhaps a majority of it seem to be so anti-establishment?

Or is it just a phase younger people go through--then they "settle down" and become more conformist?
