Badlands
Hi all. My friend is hoping to bring his wife and child to Glastonbury this year and camp in the family area. The issue will be that the wife/daughter combo will be getting down tll Thursday night. We normally get down wed morning and are looking to get setup so they can come join us but this means there'll be 5 adults in the family area without a kid for a couple of days. will this cause any issues? Cooter
As long as you have your base camp set up on the Wednesday within the family camping fields there will be no problem. There is no limit to the ratio of adults to kids (within reason) entering these fields. Eg: VERY large loud gangs of blokes and/or ladies will be questioned politely and sent elsewhere if need be, sensible groups camping within the said fields with or without kids will not be questioned, however see below...... The unwritten rule here is......... Don't use these these fields to camp if you have no kids or if you'll be noisy at any time of the day or night. vinylvictim
I'd hope you'd be ok, camping stewards at the entrances to family camping were questioning those entering without kids when we arrived (this was Wicket Ground though, i believe Cockmill Meadow had filled with a fair few groups without kids this year)
Someones Mum
Hi We were a group of adults and children who got to Cockmill Meadow on Wed around 2pm ( after arriving and being stuck in horrid queue) only to be told no space in Family Camping and had to walk all the way round, down the hill and up the hill again to get to Wickets Ground. So you can imagine my joy to be told it had lots of non families camping there!! Ho hum. Good job Wickets Ground was lovely altho next hopefully will park in West carparks rather than East!! Hmm
paulo999
I'd say "lots" is an exaggeration based on what I saw on Wednesday in Cockmill. At at least one other festival they do strict policing of family camping. What this means is you get wristbanded on entry (with children). You cannot pitch there and bring your kids the next day, nor invite friends to pop in and see you. Given that Cockmill is massively over subscribed regardless, a wristbanded system like this would not make more space, but put additional restrictions on the vast majority of genuine family campers. Wicket is easier to casually police. Hardly anyone camps there so the 'gate' traffic is low. The answer, for anyone who finds the Cockmill bunfight excessive, is to camp in Wicket, and park / travel with that in mind.
