Just an observation that was made in a joking manner. Hence the title.

joking or not, you believe it to be true, don't you?

I've experienced loads of different atmospheres. :)

within the limits of your (comparatively) short life, I'm sure you have.

No I didn't. I fitted in fine. I don't have a leather jacket....

I'm sure you were wearing a leather when I met you at Glasto. Weren't you?

Anyway (perhaps I'm wrong with that), when we met at Glasto, you expressed your surprise that I was friendly (on the basis of what's gone on here between us). Would two conflicting 'rockers' have been able to put aside what I did (and what you clearly felt you couldn't in advance - hence your surprise), or would they be so wrapped up in their image bullshit (as you obviously were when we met) that friendliness was hugely reduced as a possibility?

It's a rhetorical question. Your reaction at Glasto shows what is. Perhaps you should try a little self analysis and place what you find in a more global context than you're managed in this thread?

we think rock crowds are friendliest, you obviously think something else is. we disagree. no-one is wrong.

Aren't they?

There's a truth somewhere. One of us is more likely to be on the money (or nearer to it) than the other.

It's certainly the case that young 'rockers' have thought themselves friendlier than others for several decades. Yet how many of those who thought that at a young age still feel the same once they've aged some and had a greater amount of life experiences? In my own experience, only those who are so sucked up into a bullshit image idea that they're unable to look at things properly.

Okay, so there's a pub in Hamilton that's normally an old man-ish pub but on a Monday night they play a 'Mosher' mix and it brings in people who like the heavier kinda music and stuff. They mostly play early 00's Kerrang stuff, nobody's absolute favourite but everyone knows it and has a good time with it.

just cause the bands aren't that big doesn't mean they're shite. although i haven't been to any of these really small festivals yet, i think they probably offer really good value considering the price you pay. the tickets are quite cheap and you don't have to worry about clashes cause there's not many stages, and i can imagine there is a much better atmosphere and a bit more fun than the big festivals. i'm looking forward to going to a few.

what money? for me, i feel most at home in a rock crowd and fest. despite not doing the 'image' that you are on about. i am not wrong in this, it is my opinion. i think they are the friendliest. i've had no trouble, and i feel welcome and happy when i'm in that environment.

So you've proven there what I initially said - that people look most fondly on the scene that they associate themselves with.

And that association is of course an image thing, whether you're able to recognise it as that or not.

if it makes you happy to tell me that i'm wrong then that's fine. my stance will only change if i experience something friendlier, which i am open to. i don't subscribe to any labels. in the past few months i've seen rufus wainwright, rammstein, simply red, blink 182, joanna newsom, stevie wonder, dan le sac vs scrubius pip. what is my image?

I'm not saying that what you've experienced is wrong, I'm saying that your assumption that your own experiences pan out into a global thing is wrong.

No wonder you're getting upset. You're taking as personal criticism something which isn't saying what you're taking it as saying. ;)

You will experience things no less friendly elsewhere once you open yourself to them. :)

recognise? how is me going to sonisphere with light three quarter lengths, a white 'i heart sausage tee' and a green adidas hoody, an image that would be welcomed at a rock festival?

that's not what I said.

The fact that you went shows your association with it. The fact that you've argued for more heavy bands at Glasto shows your leanings in that direction as opposed to other directions.

And so your view is a view that you're taking from those leanings.

i've never once said that my opinion is the global opinion. stop making shit up!

The one making stuff up is you. I've not once said that your opinion is a global opinion. I've said the exact opposite, that it isn't.

But as you seem to think that a stated personal opinion is beyond comment, I'll make one and see if you live by your own ideas. My opinion is that you've sucked yourself up your own arse, and that's why all you can see is shit. :)

and i have experienced others. you make out that i am wrapped up in some rock and metal bubble. you've never even spoken to me in person.

Not wrapped up in.

Just that your (for want of a better word) sympathies in that direction also impact onto other opinions of yours to give other sympathies in that direction.

So you form no opinion of someone when you meet them? Like 'they're alright', they're a bit aggressive', they smell', etc?

I might do, but only if knowing them is of any importance to me.

It's of no importance to me if some random I might speak to is rude or whatever. For it to be of importance I have to care about what I think of them and what they think of me.

Did I care about what you thought of me or me of you? Not a jot.

Sorry if that smashes your view of your own self-importance.
