are you actually being serious here?

you are having a go at my opinion because i have been to the festival so therefore associate myself with it and sympathise to it.

Yes, I'm being serious.

I am not having a go at your opinion "because i have been to the festival so therefore associate myself with it and sympathise to it". I'm simply stating the fact that your opinion is slanted "because i have been to the festival so therefore associate myself with it and sympathise to it".

If you want to take any comment made to what you say as a personal slight then you ain't going to have many long conversations.

so if you said (for example) that you though beautiful days was the friendliest festival, that i could nulify your opinion for the same reasons? i don't even know where you've placed the goalposts now. they're on a bloody different football pitch.

What are you finding so hard to get?

People are welcome to their opinions, but it doesn't mean that just because they have that opinion that their opinion holds true for everyone.

I've simply stated an older and more experienced view, that 'rockers' are only "the friendliest" from the perspective of 'rockers' (or those whose sympathies lie in that direction).

When I was about your age, I held the same opinion as you hold now. As I became more experienced with the world, I got to find that it's simply not true. It's the view from a bubble.

and you have said that i have implied my view is global. my view is my view. because i've experienced several and come up with it. how wrong of me.

This is a discussion about "who is the friendliest". You've said 'rockers'. I've said you're wrong.

FFS, get over yourself.

i've been to t in the park 5 times. i've been to glastonbury 3 times. i've been to rockness 3 times. i've been to latitude once. i've been to loopallu twice. i've been to etc etc. i've been to sonisphere once! so why is it that my opinion is slanted for sonisphere, but not the rest? maybe cos i'm a big boy and can make up my own mind?

you're the one who needs to get over yourself if you think you are the superior who can right and wrong peoples opinions. for f**k sake. you're not even disagreeing, you're telling me that i'm wrong cos i'm young and naive. remove your head from your arse.

I remember when I was a teen and I wore a metal chain dangling from my trousers (from my wilder wannabe punk days) I was in a lift with a big dude covered in piercing, tats and wearing black and out of no where starts telling me about seeing Machine Head the night before, I asked a few proding questions and had a decent chat about it and then he asks me if I went to it and I say "Nah, I'm not a big metal head but I will go to the odd show though" and then the dude goes completely silent and we would of just stayed in the lift quietly till we got to our floors but I decided to tell him a story about how I shook Lemmy's hand at a Wildharts gig once and the chat get's going again.

I'm friends with the dude now but I do wonder if I hadn't thrown in the Lemmy story if I would be.

You can make up your own mind, but it doesn't make your mind right.

Of all those fests, which has the type(s) of music that most appeals to you?

From your posts made on efests at least, it's not the indie durge that T serves up; it's not the indie durge and dance stuff that rockness serves up; it's not the weird mixture of latitude; it's not the low-level acts of Loopallu. It's the rock of Sonisphere (plus crap pop acts, but that hasn't come into things in this thread).

You've certainly displayed a slant towards Sonisphere. It's not something I've invented.

What are you finding so f**king difficult to understand?

You opinion is what you think. What you think isn't necessarily *actually* the case. I'm not knocking your opinion, you're welcome to it.

I'm telling you that your opinion doesn't hold true for the wider world. 'Rockers' are not more friendly than any other musically aligned grouping.

I'm pointing out that your opinion is a commonly held misconception by people of your age. Because it is. As plenty of older people will be able to tell you, because of their wider experiences.

Your experience has informed you of your view. Those with greater experiences - greater merely because they've had a greater number of years to gain those experiences - have a better informed view because of their greater number of experiences. It's a simple fact of life.

But he's shown that he isn't so favourably slanted to rock. He could have went to Download and Sonisphere every year but chose other festivals. He went to one rock event and found it friendlier than those he had favoured before it. His experience is therefore correct that rockers are more friendlier, which echoes mine.

Perhaps not hugely slanted to it, but slanted all the same.

And was his liking of rock as great as it is currently when he went to the other fests he named? Nope - at least, no by the posts he was making at those times compared to more recently.

He's certainly expressed a huge dislike of some of the types that T attracts, and they're very probably pre-conceptions that pre-dated his attendance at T (after all, we all know what a twat looks like before we encounter twats at a fest). The same factors would certainly apply to his other Scottish festival attendances.

And maybe, because Sonisphere is hundreds of miles away from where he feels most comfortable (in a culture he knows), he approached it without such pre-conceptions which led to friendlier responses.

Any 'tight' group (such as at Sonisphere) is always going to be more open to all those within it than the less 'tight' groupings that the likes of T, Latitude, Glastonbury, Loopallu, etc, have. At the likes of (say) Glastonbury, a person can be there for any number of musical reasons - punk, folk, jazz, indie, pop, whatever.

Do you - or anyone else - gravitate towards all types equally? Do you approach (say) the ageing bearded folkie, or do you instead (when there's a choice) choose to approach a type that's a closer match to how you see yourself? There's only one right answer for all of us. It's simply musical tribalism.

Any 'tighter' crowd where there's fewer displayed AND perceived differences is always going to be thought of as friendlier. You see yourself as all there for the same thing, with fewer differences between you - and that view of fewer differences helps break down the barriers we all surround ourselves with.

I don't doubt that if he or you were to attend a (say) dance fest like The Glade which has a similar 'tightness' - and you did it with the same enthusiasm and liking for it as you do Sonisphere - then you'd find it had a similar friendliness*.

(* well, if the hedonistic and self-absorbing drugs were removed from it, anyway)

people are quite rude at the cathouse and classic grand. i sometimes think i must be really old fashioned because i expect people to be polite and considerate.. and at least have some manners.

and i get funny looks off people every time i go to solid or rufus, probably because they are all dressed exactly the same and i'm just dressed like myself.

wrong. the end

Am I wrong when I say you've posted about your dislike of some who go to T, and via which you display your own unfriendliness which might well have a like response? Nope.

Am I wrong when I say that the people at a single genre event will by default be more open to others at that event than is the case at multi-genre events? Nope.

Am I wrong in saying you've displayed a preference for rock over other genres? Nope.

The only thing I'm finding wrong is your belief that your opinion MUST be right for all things. But never mind, you'll get over it when you grow up, as we all do. :)

I've posted "a whole spiel about me that you have come up with based on what i post on here".

So tell me where it's wrong. :D

I've used ONLY what you've specifically said, and invented nothing. If you've shot yourself with your own words, that's your own wrongness and not mine. :)

aah, so you DO know me more than i know me? cool. if you could let me know what fests i want to go to next year, i'd appreciate it.

Perhaps I do. Do you know that you'll post any old shit you've made up in a moment to try and wriggle out of what you've said previously?:lol:

I've simply concentrated on the examples you've given previously. You know, in the same way that a court counts previous wrong-doing as having more credence than a promise to be good from now on.

You *HAVE* shown a preference for rock over other genres. Go on tell me that's not true.
