Why are people at what you define a hippy festival going to be offended by your opinions? And what minor things?

But what you are saying here is that you would be considered offensive by people outside a rock festival (a fair point :P ). So at a hippy festival where everyone else gets on with each other, your behaviour is the offensive behaviour, rather than everyone else there being an unfriendly crowd.

I really hate to say this but I think neil and paul are right. Rockers are a friendly bunch - to each other. I'm into rock music myself, and I must confess to being very narrow in my musical taste, and only liking rock music. But metalhead friends are even more insular, and refuse to go to Indie clubs because they're out of their comfort zone, which they then interpret as feeling that the place is unfriendly. I've experienced that feeling myself in certain places, and I'm fairly sure it's my issue and not the venue.

So yes, there is a massive feeling of acceptance and solidarity within the group, but a great deal of insecurity and mistrust of people who are not rockers.

with good cause sometimes, but that's another story.

There are friendly people & unfriendly people at every festival. As at every gig & in every pub.

I've found, as a general rule of thumb, the smaller the festival the friendlier the general atmosphere. The people there tend to be there for the party as much as the bands theselves. Which , for me means people ready to get stuck in to the whole experience rather than run around band catching. Which makes for more random banter & more laughs!

On and for the record I love a bit of good hard rock (waits for the inevitable edit!!) as much as anyone else, but I f**king hate GnR.

I don`t get overly excited to Sweet Child. Heard it far too many times now. I remember when Axl sang the second verse first at Wembley one time just to confuse people. I`d heard enough of it by then. Rocket Queen is a far superior song.

I said as far back as page one that I thought there was a cammaradarie amongst metal / rock fans that comes out of an us and them mentality. Almost a tribal kind of thing I haven`t read anything susequently that makes me change my mind.

In terms of friendliness, I have to say that nearly all the raves that I`ve been to at least one complete stranger has come up to me and told me that they love me. You don`t get much friendlier that that.
