ampersand
To be fair to John Peel he did have wider tastes than that... Someone once said if John Peel was alive then he would love the Ting Tings... I swore at the Radio that day
jump
and john peel, there's one i don't get. favourite song is a shitty punk song and his music taste is something to be respected. pah!
oafc0000
he probably would have. some of the shit i heard on his shows before he died was unreal. ting tings were actually pretty good in comparison. i just didn't like his style at all. not funny at all. i can see why folk did but it just wasn't for me. and yes i do, he's the only thing on radio 1 that i do like now. scott mills i like but only in small doses. Steve P
i think people are just not getting that radio 1 isn't for them anymore. i'm seeing that the majority of complainers are middle aged, or thereabouts. of course you're not going to like radio 1. it's like me complaining about the output on cbbc not being my bag. you listened to radio 1 when you were younger, and now listen to other things. i listened to radio 1 when i was younger, and am on the transition to other things. and the kids that listen now will experience the exact same things in 10-20 years time. oafc0000
Just wondering if a few of the usual suspects want to come forward and explain their selective memory... Seems like you want to move on now I have shown you to be operating said memory.... Edited September 24, 2010 by oafc0000
oafc0000
The difference is when it was being aimed at me say 10-15 years ago, the dj's were there primarily to play music and fill in the odd minute or 2 between tracks. Now the music is there to fill the odd 3 minute gap between what the dj's are waffling on about. The quality of the play list is neither here nor there to me. To be honest i'm no more/less impressed by the songs they play now than I was 15 years ago, it's just that now there's far less chance of hearing a song I do like as they play so sodding few songs. ampersand
It's more to do with him helping so many bands get breaks that he's respected, unlike Moyles who doesn't take an active intrest in music.
oafc0000
he's been doing the saviour thing for as long as i remember. even in the afternoon days.

oafc0000
nah i'm positive it was before that. not time to check, but his first song 'god is a dj' wasn't exactly a shock due to this.

eFestivals
just because he likes pop, mainstream and stuff that you don't like, doesn't mean he has no interest. christ, i've never seen a more snobbish post than this. It helps if you know what you're talking about. He has no interest in music, he does have an interest in being on the radio and playing music. eFestivals
It's very odd. You have to wonder what the heads of the stations (Radio 1 here) are aiming for. I guess the main objective is as many listeners as possible, and if they think that works better with empty headed numpties spouting utter drivel, then so be it yep - it's about going for the lowest common denominator. eFestivals
aah, so he doesn't go to gigs then? or arrange sessions at abbey road for large orchestra's to perform his beds? you're right, i don't have a clue, you know best as usual He goes out. Because he gets freebies, he SOMETIMES - just sometimes - goes out to gigs. He has a production budget. He spends it.
jump
John Peel can directly be credited to being a major leg-up for numerous bands what will Chris Moyles legacy be?
ampersand
so, he arranges for orchestra's to perform his beds (you mean the music playing underneath his annoying banter?) that's just more evidence to show how up his arse and irrelevant his choice in music really is

eFestivals
aah, so sometimes goes out to gigs = no interest in music. cool, that adds up. so you've never tagged along with your mates to see a band that you're not interested in? scott mills also has producion budgets. does he do the same? He has a much smaller production budget, just as he has much smaller wages. It's also quite possible (I'm not sure) that he's more constrained over how he spends his production budget. Moyles is 'hired' thru his own production company, so has absolute freedom with how his is used. If Mills is a direct BBC employee then he'll have to comply with BBC rules. eFestivals
yeah i've went with my brother to see a band he loved called amplifico. but how does that mean no interest? surely that means you have an interest if you are prepared to open yourself up to new things. it can be that, or it can be about being with your mates. this is the exact same thing that you had a go at me for in a different thread. saying that i only care about 'name' bands and wasn't prepared to delve deeper. No it's not. anyway, pray tell, what example relating to moyles are you on about? None at all. I'm on about what I know, from someone who knows Moyles well.
