indie nile
I can't get anyone to go with me next year so I thought of volunteering, how easy is it to get accepted? I did think of going on my own but getting on a bit now and need looking after, especially after visiting the cider bus.
Vacant0
You'd get accepted to litter pick no problem. Any particular thing you wanting to volunteer to do though? Theres loads of volunteer positions at Glasto. However, that fact is the extent of my knowledge, so hopefully somebody else can tell you what some of them are, how you'd go about applying for them and how likely you are to get accepted. indie nile
Thanks for this, I was looking at stewarding perhaps for Oxfam, or doing something with Water Aid, but it seems that you need to already be involved with them in some way or have been with them before.I'll apply through their websites when they advertise places. I just wondered how likely it was to get accepted as a newbie.Litter picking is ok though.
glasto-worker
I have been a Volunteer at Glastonbury for the past 21 years { and various other festivals } and while experience does count I do know some people who were in the right place at the right time and they were accepted for the first time in 2010 even although they had never attended Glastonbury before. Clearly the first thing you should work out is what you want to do. You need to appreciate that every Volunteer has to accept they will have to work shifts that may clash with favourite bands and its all a matter of luck what shifts you end up with. Most will take a deposit in advance { which can be up to £ 300 although most will be the price of a ticket } and although this may appear a easy way to skip the ticket queue if you don't complete your shifts they can blacklist you { from any Volunteer job at Glastonbury for any Organisation } Its a great way to attend Glastonbury and I would never go back to being a ticket holder. Hope the list helps ------------- Note that some organisations may not make the links live until they are ready to recruit but these were the links they used in 2010 . indie nile
Thank you, this is so useful.I'm happy to pay up front, after years of attending as a ticket holder I thought I'd give something back so working the shifts is fine, as we all know the best bands are often ones we don't know about so I'm not too worried about missing anything.I hoped to meet a new group of people and not be totally on my own. I'll keep trying the links.
glasto-worker
certainly you will meet a new crowd as each Voluntary outlet has their own specific camping area and may or may not have their own licensed bar as well. Whatever the setup its a great way to meet new and old friends. Whatever you pick its important to keep your ear to the ground as places go fast. I know two who joined a waiting list and were really suprised when they were called up the very next day so you never know your luck. good luck
indie nile
Keeping everything crossed now for a volunteer stint, looks as if I may be in with a chance. Cheers everyone.

strolling wanderer
Every year since 1999 I have gone as an Oxfam volunteer, in fact I've not yet paid to attend at any festival. I see a different side to the festival and meet up with a great group of volunteers who have also been going for years as well as new volunteers who come through the application process. As posted earlier in this thread, is a link to the Oxfam steward pages where you'll find a lot of good info on the roles we undertake at the festival and the set up in our camping area. If you do go for it good luck.
