What on earth has got in to people?!?!?!?

In my experience Neil has done nothing other than the right thing regarding the pictures that were cropping up. I understand the fun behind them but it is a festival forum, I come here to share the spirit of the festival, I'm certain sexism in any form is not part of Glastonbury...

It is challenging and it opens our eyes and long may that continue.

And the other point about Neil only being negative it utter shite.

Keep the fools out and maintain the spirit and the site will continue to blossom, if you need to look at top heavy lovelies there is a time and place for that as well, just not here.

Now then, what's the craic with the weather?

Except I'm not ridiculing it, I'm merely contesting it. You've chosen the word 'ridicule' because of its inferences as it fits your bill better if you can attach such connotations to it (just as you've claimed to be 'bullied'). It also confirms that you are taking my argument to be hugely personal, as with many others, rather than stepping back and discussing it in a detached way.

It's the flurry of "me-against-the-world" emotion coming through your posts that is prolonging this needless debate.

if you've actually read this thread then you'll be able to clearly see that people have only - tho often slowly - accepted that the posting of those images was completely unreasonable, because I've been prepared to take them on about it. So it has, if you like, actually been "me-against-the-world", tho not of my choice or want.

People don't want to have any reasonable discussion about it, just as you don't here. You, like them, want your view to be accepted in preference to my own, irregardless of any rights and wrongs of what's actually been going on.

Because those people want their view to be the one that wins out and won't accept anything less than that, then that's what draws the battle lines. But at the end of the day it's either the case of let those who can shout loudest win out - which means the morons get to take over (closely followed by forum death, as demonstrated in countless other places) - or an acceptance that one view of things has to be the primary one.

And in being the person with that primary view merely by it being me that runs things here, I have a choice. I could choose to do what happens in many other places and just simply use the ban button and have a simple and easy life, or I can give people the chance to realise that they have to accept that how I run things is how things are by being prepared to engage with them and doing it all in public view.

Now I know that I go in too hard at times, and also by trying to by brief at first I end up making something bigger than it might sometimes otherwise be, but the simple fact is that some people simply won't be told, they believe they've as much right to run this place than I have.

Like you for instance. I've told you now a number of times that I'll keep going till things fade away, and your response is to tell me to let things fade away by dragging it all up again. You are doing all you're telling me not to - which makes you the better person how exactly?

Well I will never "get it". Personally I find a man telling me what I should and shouldn't find offensive much worse than a few photos of attractive ladies.

At no point have I told anyone what they should find offensive.

What I have done is said that some people do find things posted here offensive, and asked those posts to stop. Some people don't want them to stop, but those people with no regard for others views are NOT going to become a dominant clique here.

If you don't like it, you know where the door is.

I don't want to points score, but given the number of members who've indicated agreement with my post, and considering nothing you've said has had anything NEAR the level of agreement and has had far more dissenting voices, I think I'm fair in believing that more members on here would back my position.

I don't give a shit about what you or others think is the dominant view.

The view that is very definitely going to win out here is the one where people don't have to be unnecessarily offended by blatant sexism in a thread about the weather.

I agree in as much as they're not really related to the topic, but they were harmless fun which got a bit much in the last few days. The vast majority of the "big" threads here have plenty of things in them which aren't related to the topic.

if it's the harmless fun that you claim, why are many people offended by it, as can be seen by some posts in this thread?

Tell me how you feel they're sexist? You've already tried claiming they're degrading - something which I've totally debunked by saying that they're the sorts of pictures that are seen absolutely everywhere.

if you think quantity is a measure of how all people view things then you're deluded.

You say you recognise opposing views, yet you're the one who seems unable to argue in a respectful manner with those with opposing views.

you're making the mistake of believing that I have a responsibly to open closed minds in a way that pleases you.

This forum is far more friendly and open minded than the vast majority of communities out there

and of course that's got nothing at all to do with the fact that I won't allow these forums to degenerate into the lowest common denominator, which has killed so many other forums (including forums about Glastonbury that used to be far busier than these).

Unless you can give me a way in which people posting those pictures counts as "sexism", then you're denigrating the very cause you claim to be championing.

try it the other way - I keep asking you, and you never do. Anyone with half a brain might think that's because you can't.

How are picture of scantily clad women anything to do with the weather? Even some of those who posted those pictures have admitted they had no place here.

Can I chip in?

Whaaaaaaaaat is going on.

The love on nearly all forums on here does not exist. It's always ends up in ridicule of others and people being way to complicated and offended for one reason or another.

Let there be love. Surely even a simple (and the best) thread couldn't have ended up like this. A little bit of light reading has again turned into something that is a complete joke. And if this is about girls in bikini tops, Jesus! That's bad.

Neil was right (if a little bit snappy at times). Modding forums is not an easy job and I know 'cos I mod several. It helps if the contributors respect requests from the mod before it gets to the level of warnings and bannings.

But 'nuff said. Let's get back to focussing on the sun B)
