I use the 'If you could meet anyone famous who would it be and why?' as an icebreaker on quite a few courses. The most popular response is Nelson Mandela.

My own view is that I wouldn't want to meet many of my heroes in case the illusion is shattered and they turn out to be prats or up their own backsides.

One person I think I'd enjoy meeting is Michael Palin as I think what you see is probably what you'd get.. He seems to be genuinely interested in people and seems to get on with well with all those he encounters on his travel programmes like Pole to Pole.

My childhood 'hero' was Boy George... even wrote in to Jim'll Fix it as a child to meet him!! Spent a 'lovely' night with him after clubbing at the Cross in about 1998. What a top geezer and a laugh! Now, next on the list is Dave Gahan if anyone can help with that one!

Oh, and perfectly aware who Mark Edward Smith is thankyou!

i met John Paul Jones a few days before the O2 Reunion gig. had a nice chat with him about the upcoming gig, what a top bloke, a real genius and gentleman.

Had a fag with Phil May from the Pretty Things outside the Classic Rock Awards, great stories from the old days when they were on a level with the Stones.

On a flight back from Hongkong in the 90's we had the whole AC Milan team on board. With my youthful enthusiasm and my broken high school italian i ventured up to the business class and had a chat with Roberto Baggio, who offered me the seat next to him and we chatted a bit. then i pumped into jean pierre papin and a few others. On the way back to cattle class i pumped into Postman Pat, but he was a right twat and made it clear he doesn't talk to people from the back of the plane...

I've met bands of varying degrees of fame here and there. Had a drink with the Arctic Monkeys before they got big, they were nice, apparently c**ts now...

The only person i've ever met of proper world wide acclaim is Michael Stipe. He was in an Indian in Nottingham with the rest of REM (who we ignored looking back on it). He has a very vegan handshake.

Met a few most of them was hi, can I shake you're hand and end off but...

I met David McWane the frontman to my fave band Big D and The Kids Table a few times and give him a hug each time.

I met Benji from Skindred at a festival by a merch stand (I was sitting on top of it eating a tub of Ben & Jerry's) and a girl came up to him and asks him to sign her clevage and he politely says no and I do it for him and sign his name on her boobs and leave my number.

I didn't meet her but Tatiana DeMaria the devine frontwoman of T.A.T. was supporting NoFX and after her set she went into the crowd to watch them and I see her standing a few people in front of me so I go to say hi, but then nerves hit in and I just stand behind and generally just stare at her arse.

Met Jesse Lacey from Brand New at a Kevin Devine gig. I was hacked off as my first GCSE class' results were crap and he offered me tickets to Reading the next day but I was too shy to go back and ask about it at the end of the gig. I f**king love love love him though - had to drink some serious dutch courage before i went and said hi, and felt like a total twat.
