Jon and Tracey Morton spoke about this in that debate thing in the alternative tent this year.

There take on it, was that attempting to repeat the feat wouldn't achieve anything more than they did last year (ie: proving that if enough people want, or believe in something, they can make it happen).

If it happened every year, it would almost become a contradiction of itself.

I would like them to do it again in some ways, was great seeing RATM hit number one. But it wouldn't have the same impact this year and again like some have said it goes against what they were trying to prove.

IF they were having another go, i'd nominate this song. ;)

Last year was great but it should be a one off, the point was made. Does anyone really give a shit about the charts now anyway? they're full of absolute shite.

If there was going to be any song that would challenge X Factor for Christmas number one it should be a Christmas song.

I thought Cowell started the X-factor a few weeks earlier this year so that the winner was pretty much guaranteed their number one and so something more fitting could be xmas no1? I think that was what was being said a few weeks after last years but I'm not sure if they went through with it, does everyone more angry with the establishment two weeks earlier than usual this year?

Personally, I've always considered the whole stunt surrounding RATM's surprise Christmas no. 1 last year a bit pointless and stupid. I don't side in the 'their buth sgned 2 MAJuHSSS!!11" conspiracy camp for one second but the impression it left was a mild dent at best.

The X Factor continues and so long as there is a market for the bullshit the record industry feeds us, it'll keep churning out the same nonsense year in, year out without relent. Weekly, millions phone in to vote for their favourites at £1 a pop. Millions more is made on revenue from advertisements. Millions more is made from sale of songs featured on the show. Then there is the merchandise, the tie-in promotions, the celebrity endorsements... it's marketing saturation. You can't get away from it. Only when all of those pipelines are dry will it cease to exist, and they won't so long as there is a market for it.

The best thing that anybody can do to make a statement against the music industry is by downloading everything the music industry sells illegally. If you really want to make a difference, don't download another protest song; just go to a torrent website and download the X Factor single for nothing. If you want to make even more of a difference, download the album. That's all you can do.
