Has anyone an opinion of the the camping gaz stove which use the aerosol canisters/bottles? Are they any good and roughly how long do they take to heat a cup of water? Any better ideas - but still keeping it keep and not too heavy/big? ThanX

they seem pretty nifty - but please make sure you know how to use it before getting to the festival.

the people we camped next to at sunrise festival this year had borrowed one, they thought they'd set it up right, until flames were rising 5 ft into the air. very scary moment given the number of highly flamable tents around.

I got one of these from Tescos 3 or 4 years ago, fantastic little stoves.

Good thing is the gas cannisters re-seal themselves, so are easily removable for easy packing etc. In the past I've taken 2 of the small cannisters with me to other festivals, and came back with a full one each time. This is using it 2/3 times a day, to make a brew in the morning and then tin of beans or macaroni cheese for lunch and then tinned stew and vegetables, after the music's finished.

I'd reckon 2 cannisters would be enough to do Glastonbury.

ah, but the beauty of having a cuppa in the morning, without getting out of your sleeping bag, can't be beat. ;)

I use a small meths stove for that myself, takes two to three times as long to brew, but packs up much smaller.

The only real problem with those 'suitcase' stoves is their bulk if you are going by public transport. But they are way more stable than the burner on canister type, easy to control and are usually self igniting.

But I just need to boil a pint of water (morning cuppa, strip wash, emergency cuppa soups) so the meths stove is perfectly OK

I ran a very good kitchen feeding up to 4 people out the back of our van with one of those stoves as we travelled in Australia.

The useful thing with the carry case is that you can stand the case up and use as a wind shield (something you do not get with a meths stove that stands alone). It also serves as a stand if laid flat for cooking on.

Do make sure when you are buying the gas canisters that they are good quality as you can sometimes come across cheaper versions that do not quite fit and end up being loose and do not work. You can shop around too and in the run up to the festy season, with it being camping season too you will get good deals.

Always take more than you need to a fest too as the cans are so light, its better to be safe than sorry and its always a pisser when you are down to the dregs with no replacement and you want hot water.

Hello,

Most probably I will come by plane, so I won't be able to bring my gas or burning oil. Do you know if they sell these at the festival area or some Glastonbury town shop?

For example in Roskilde they don't sell gas, but it is possible to buy it in Roskilde city.

-- Thank you very much

There are many camping shops on the Glasto site, Millets (at least 3), Joe Bananas, 2 etc. I believe you can even order what you need, online, in advance and pick it up on site (Millets). Had no probs buying aerosol gas cans for our cooker. We get through 3 to 4 over 5 days but we eat our own food and brew alot!
