worm
You'd have a point if that was anything near to what I've said. I've merely told him that even mega-Cure fans don't much like The Cure live. Because they don't. It doesn't stop them going to see them or enjoying it tho, because they're mega-Cure fans. It's the same for nearly all people with their favourite bands. Worm doesn't like something I don't - he hasn't seen them to know if he likes them. And as can be seen from other posts in this thread, those that have posted about also having seen them are agreeing with me. FFS.
worm
I thought that was the point of the thread which you started? Edited October 28, 2010 by worm
eFestivals
you haven't been trying to tell him he shouldn't like The Cure then...? Nope, nothing like that at all. I've simply told him that most people think them a weak live act (including mega-Cure fans), and that he's likely to too outside of his fan-head. I'd assume he likes their music and would like to find out for himself and I made clear from my first comment and in comments since that he's more than welcome to. eFestivals
I said that I want to see Robert Smith before he dies. You said that The Cure are boring live. I said that I didn't care what your opinion was. You said that other people had that opinion too. I said I didn't care about their opinion either. From that, you inferred a load of crap about me having a fan head and other such prejudicial garbage. No, I simply stated that aside from a fan-head opinion of them, you're very likely to agree that they're a weak live act. f**k sake, should I add 'can't understand the simplest words' to the list of your wonderful attributes, which mostly includes 'stupid beyond belief'? eFestivals
it's an opinion, that's all just because there might be loads of people who share the same opinion, doesn't make it any more or less valid It never stops YOU tho does it? So why pick on me for doing nothing you don't regularly do yourself?

eFestivals
what...? I might suggest someone isn't up to much, with the usual pre-requisite that it's an opinion. I wouldn't go on and on at one person about why they'd be wasting their time incvestigating a band that they like but haven't seen live You do it all the time, particularly with the Stones. Including yesterday or the day before. But at no point have I said anything remotely like worm would be wasting his time see The Cure - I've specifically said I'm sure he'll enjoy it. What I have said is that if he's able to look at things objectively, he'll recognise they're a weak live act.
eFestivals
Why couldn't you just leave it then when you saw that I didn't care about your opinion or the opinion of others? I did quite clearly pint out to you that I didn't care about other people's opinions because it would bias my experience. If that isn't open minded then I don't know what is Chief. Your experience is already going to be biased - you're a huge fan. I've merely pointed out that if you're able to put that bias aside, you'll recognise them for the weak live act they are. jump
Back on topic... Minor Threat & Operation Ivy both of them should be kicking around for another 20ish years but doubt they'll ever do a reunion and the Donnas, they've played a couple of festivals I've been to but clashed with someone else and I can't remember ever seeing tour dates for them over here. eFestivals
I've said why I don't think they're worth seeing any more. I'm totally aware of why people might still like them. And what I've said about The Cure is that they've never been worth seeing. I'm totally aware of why people might still like seeing them, and I made that 100% clear from the first comment I made. zlatan07
Meh, overrated. He never did anything great if you look back, just a load of shitty effects through crappy equipment and he played a right handed guitar upside down! Pure novelty act. eFestivals
This isn't a fact. It's an opinion. That's been my only point to you. But what *IS* a fact is that it's a very widely held opinion. To the extent that when The Cure asked thru the press to play Glastonbury again at some point within the last ten years, the response from Glastonbury was along the lines of "why? you've never once given a worthwhile performance." (I just tried googling for it, but trying to find something like that when I can't remember the exact words used would take an age).
eFestivals
I don;t believe you anyway. A fan is more likely to be angry and feel ripped off with a bad performance than feel bored. Your belief is mis-placed, as continuing ticket sales for Cure shows with the obsessives snapping them up gets to show. If you ever do get to see them, ask a few people around you how many times they've seen them, and how many times they've thought what they've seen has been much above average. You'll soon get to recognise the truth of what I've said.

eFestivals
That is completely superfluous to the fact that I want to see them, which is the point of the thread. I was asked who I'd like to see befire I die. I said Robert Smith. It'll be Robert Smith until I see The Cure live Neil. And as I said, I get why you want to see them, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them. But they're still one of the dullest live bands around, as you'll get to discover.
