Apparently its a hearing Aid, similar to what Siemens manafactured in 1924. But why would she be using it? She's on her own and evidently speaking to no one but herself

What about the theory of time travel being like a telephone. You need two at each end to make a call (time travel). And that's why the hadron collider thing keep breaking, it's travelling back in time to try and destroy itself.
