Iron maiden looks unlikely due to there massive tour schedule and the whole exclusivity thing. But I guess its wait and see time. Them 3 headliners does nothing for me especially with some of the bands about this year. The strokes I guess would be an exclusive. I couldn't see mcr headlining anywhere but dload or soni but I don't think either will want them this year. I can imagine download having blink and the foos and an other.

Yep it would be useful to hear Niel's feedback.

To me, The Strokes are like... Kasabian. I mean the music is completely different, they sound nothing like each other, but it's the whole media saturation that always irritated the hell out of me with The Strokes.

I was watching a documentary the other day called Kill Your Idols - pretty much the best documentary you'll ever see about the New York music scene in the late 70s and early 80s - and it had people like Michael Gira from Swans, Lee and Thurston from Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch, J.G. Thirwell/Clint Ruin, Arto Lindsay from DNA, etc - and none of them had anything positive to say about The Strokes because they hated the way the media masqueraded them as "the best New York band on the planet" when nobody in New York had even heard of them.

They were saying that the media in Europe were hailing them as the saviours of Rock n Roll and yet, despite being paraded around as forebearers to bands like The Ramones and Television, they had pretty much nothing to do with the New York music scene. Lee Ranaldo was especially critical saying something to the effect of; The Strokes only became popular because the media were trying to desperately trying to grasp at something that was a bit more raw and back to basics than all of the digitally manufactured shit floating around at the time.

And to be honest, he has a point.

Ok so a festival which has always had 3 exclusive headliners has suddenly decided that they need to book a headliner that headlined a few years back so badly that they are willing to let them play loads of other big shows in the UK. Quite simply if they are playing their own shows the fans will go to them, so reading wont shift day tickets. Rather coincidental that suddenly you find out the strokes are playing on the day the Sun releases them aswell? Maiden are pretty irrelevent, wont shift tickets, arent exclusives and are touring the UK. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN
