I think that Iron Maiden may be true.

They are headling Roskilde next year + other European festivals I imagine. Last played in 2005 and are what I would call a 'proper Reading band'.

They will be a UK (or maybe English) festival exclusive even if they are playing arena shows.

One thing is sure; if they do play they will do a better job than Guns N Roses did this year.

Ok so a festival which has always had 3 exclusive headliners has suddenly decided that they need to book a headliner that headlined a few years back so badly that they are willing to let them play loads of other big shows in the UK. Quite simply if they are playing their own shows the fans will go to them, so reading wont shift day tickets. Rather coincidental that suddenly you find out the strokes are playing on the day the Sun releases them aswell? Maiden are pretty irrelevent, wont shift tickets, arent exclusives and are touring the UK. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Dropkick Murphys for lock up hopefully. (nothing set in stone but that is the band who is most likely).

Greenday were heavily considered + possible contact made.

Slipknots name was thrown about but no contact was made and decided against.

Rise Against for main stage have been approached.

I've seen all the golden old hard rock/ metal bands (Maiden, metallica, ac/dc, areosmith etc), but I just didn't enjoy maiden, it sounded dated and tired. I'd rather see mcr be given a chance at headlining, at least danger days brings something new to the table.

we should add that a guy who's on the maiden mailing lists got emailed today saying that as well as an arena tour, the band will do a series of extra to be announced european dates. i think this guy knows his shit, sun might be crap for info but neil put strokes upto sr.

Regarding Linkin Park and Soundgarden, I know R+L were interested in Linkin Park and it's not out of the question that they could still play but most unlikely.

Muse was wanted last year but they turned R+L down, they are not playing this year. White Stripes are not playing either.
