Tuition Fees March

BBC News says that it's kicking off at the tuition fees march up in London today. It looks to be turning a bit nasty, although obviously the vasty majority of protstors will be peaceful and the news networks will hype things up.

They've now breached the Millbank Tower building. What is at the Millbank Tower, anyhow?

All the "Tories out" type protesting takes me back.

From... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/universityeducation/8123194/Student-protests-turn-violent-as-Tory-headquarters-evacuated.html ...

A group barged into the lobby of Millbank Tower, near the headquarters of the Tory party, before being forced out by police and security officers. They then began setting fire to placards outside the entrance.

I was going to go down today, but ironically I couldn't afford the time because I had to teach to top up my income to something I can live off.

Sad to hear its turning nasty. Not cool.

... and its not just about tuition fees. Originally, before the Browne report was published, it was planned as a demo against higher education funding cuts, although the two are obviously inherently linked

I hear there's 55,000 people there.

I wonder what's happened to the other million-plus students? Do they think the rise in fees is a good thing?

Or is it just that they don't care, because none of it will affect them (it'll only affect students who start their course in 2012 or later). "I'm alright Jack".

Thatcher spawned a wonderful thing. ;)

To be fair, tickets down to London from Birmingham for this sold out about 3 weeks ago.

In that case I apologise to the students that haven't heard of planes trains and auto-mobiles. Or hitching.

Along with invading the wrong tory building, I'm starting to think that the tories are right with one of their angles for justifying the cuts.

Hey Neil....I've just spoken to our little student to ask her if she's setting fire to Tories in that London….She's not…..she didn't wake up this morning and has missed everything…..That SU Card comes in really handy when shopping in Top Shop though.

Bloody youngsters. I guess it's back to the normal then of doing everything for the kids ourselves.

Anyone got a light? And a handy tory I can borrow? :P
