How does the balance sheet work out for cost to state vs income through tourism on old Liz?

Proportionally, Ireland has a much bigger tourism rate than the UK. And guess what? You've managed that without having a monarchy.

And guess what? France has no monarchy either, but (with around the same native population as the UK) has a massively greater tourism rate than we have.

Yet people keep on dragging out that Liz and Phil and their sponging offspring are good for tourism, when there's not a shred of proof that they are (not even from the registry office do a few weeks ago).

In fact, the best evidence (not compelling, but there's all there is) suggests that there'd be more tourism with Liz living on some council estate somewhere like a lot of people on state benefits, because more people would come here if they got to do more than look at some big houses from a distance such as wander around them properly.
