rock werchter 2011

thought it was a lovely festival last year with a wonderful lineup, chilled atmosphere,no dickeheads you get at some uk festivals and best of all was the glorious hot weather.

lineup permitting I will be returning in 2011.

anyone else thinking of going.

I imagine the lineup being the ususal culprits of kol/foos etc etc.

First confirmed acts are Kings of Leon and The Chemical brothers! Ticket sales start on December 4!

So headliners are The Chemical Brothers, Kings Of Leon, Coldplay and Iron Maiden. Has anyone got a bit of a FAQ or a link to one etc for British goers to the festival, i just dont know enough about the festival and how to go about having a wicked time there but all ive heard is how good it is

They put on transport within Belgium for you. You could have an early departure on the Thursday and head straight there, but I'd suggest getting a hotel somewhere in Belgium (Brussels being the obvious) the night before and making a full week of it. Pretty much everything is in English as well, it's a pretty multi-national festival. They tend to get a lot of large acts, and they only have 2 stages. Not only two stages with bands you've heard of, but 2 full stop. They spend all their money cramming the lineup with big names. When I went in 2008 they had Kings of Leon and Jay-Z third, while they headlined Glasto. It's a great festival for chilling out and watching huge bands play.

Chemical Brothers aren't headliners, they are the usual closing dance-act on thursday after the headliner. (2009: Oasis - Prodigy, 2010: Muse - Faithless).

The official announcement says that Iron Maiden isn't headlining either but co-headlining.

So in fact only 2 headliners are revealed!

Sounds like an awesome festival. Have never been before, but it sounds absolutely perfect.

Where would be the best place to stay? I heard that Leuven has good access to the site?

Also, how quickly do tickets sell out for this? Will it be a mad rush on Saturday morning?

You can of course camp, stayed in leuven on the wednesday, Lovely little town.

Doesnt sell out that quick. Last year they came out in Dec, and I got mine end of Feb.

Very friendly fest, but don't expect the madness of a glasto/reading type of fest.

Seriously considering Werchter this year. Went open'er in Poland a couple years ago and loved it. Does anyone know general prices of food/drink at Werchter? Also anyone flying from Liverpool?

blimey that was quicker than I thought, got my weekend ticket already so happy days.

pretty sure the coldplay day sold out first last time they played as well, so may not be a rush for tickets, just that coldplay are very popular over there.

Any word on the next announcement?

Don't know about anyone else, but this announcement seems like a massive dud to me (I think it's due to the kaiser chiefs being well past their sell by date, yet seem to going further up the bill!). Give it one more announcemnt before deciding on werchter, as it is a very nice laid back festival, but on the flip side there isn't a whole lot to do other than watch music on the two stages.
