Why so many American Punk/Metal bands rumours?

All i keep reading for rumours are, MCR, Greenday, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden etc etc but surely these are too many of the same genre music? there is always a variety? Okay, the Strokes have been mentioned and they come nder the indie genre, but who else has been mentioned? Surely there will be more Indie bands playing than have been mentioned.

Just like to throw a few ideas out there and hear your opinions on it. Obviously i have no real source. So:

Arctic Monkeys? - have new album due to be released next summer. Surely they will play at a festival. Although, they did play in 09

The Strokes - already a strong rumour

Blur? - Said to be doing something in January. could be possibly, no?

Brandon Flowers/Carl Barat - or both. Probably won't headline, but will surely be around. Could add Jon Fratelli, from the Fratellis to that list, but he is no where near as popular as them, so no point even speculating.

The Futureheads or The Kooks - won't headline, but will both be around

Muse -Always a rumour

Red hot chili peppers

The Wombats - as much as i dont like them, they have a new album. Won't headline, but could be on the main stage.

Any more ideas + thoughts. :)

All i keep reading for rumours are, MCR, Greenday, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden Britishetc etc but surely these are too many of the same genre music? there is always a variety? Okay, the StrokesAre American have been mentioned and they come nder the indie genre, but who else has been mentioned?Surely there will be more Indie bands playing than have been mentioned.Just like to throw a few ideas out there and hear your opinions on it. Obviously i have no real source. There will be but its far too early to be thinking of anything but headliners and possibly sub's

So:

Arctic Monkeys? - played in 09

The Strokes - already a strong rumour

Blur? - Unlikely thats why they arn't being rumoured, although a few have said they'd like them

Brandon Flowers/Carl Barat Jon Fratelli - Too early for that really, everything at this point is just guesswork may play

The FutureheadsPlayed last year, second on on the Arcade fire day

The Kooks - More of a v band, and once again too early for those types

Muse -Are roumered, very much are not 'indie'

Red hot chili peppers Very much not indie and are American, not many people like them on here after there last appearance a the fests, maybe at V

The Wombats - could be on the main stage. but once again too early

Any more ideas + thoughhts 'Indie' &/or British - Plan B, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Stereophonics, Feeder, Manics, editors, the enemy, brandon flowers, a big maybe Noel Gallagher, Jamie T, primal scream(possibly), white lies probably more

And to answer the American thing, the majority of the American bands are better quality than there English counterparts, bar a few, they play a lot less over here due to the distance they have to travel so its more likely people want to see those bands higher up at a festival. Plus all American bands don't sound exactly the same as each other like a lot of the 'indie' bands do.

The reason that a lot of those bands have been rumored is

1. There is obviously a "need" situation in terms of American bands. Traditionally the average American band will tour North America, and the average British band will tour the UK. Festivals are a chance to see international bands that are possibly not having a UK tour (or could entice them to do so).

2. Most Brits are tired of hearing traditionally British dominated music, (on the radio etc.) and therefore American bands provide a sense of variety at a festivals. Plus, for alternative music listeners bands like Soundgarden are much more appealing than a lot of the indie on NME. The bottom line is, a NME sponsored a event will have TONS OF INDIE ANYWAY
