ampersand
perhaps i'm just not that compassionate. like i don't feel any compassion for folk who end up in a&e from overdrinking every weekend up and down the country. they are rightly treated but doesn't mean i have to pity them or feel compassion. afterall, it's not their fault they had the upbringing they had that lead to this ott binging. ampersand
so now you know about their upbringing from their drinking habits? Does it differ depending on what type of alcohol they imbibe? Like, do lager binge drinkers have different upbringings from those who drink shorts? I don't necessarily feel compassion, but I do try to be impartial and objective. I don't think you're even aware of how much some of the things you say are absolutely loaded with judgement values.
RABun
all i'm saying is that they can have an excuse like people are giving this fatty.
Ed209
it raises the issue of a fat tax again. If smokers and drinkers get charged duty that helps pay for their burden on society, then maybe unhealthy foods should be taxed to help pay for fattys like this guy. ampersand
Oh dear i can't wait for you to meet me at sonisphere Yes he's making excuses, yes he should take responsibility and do something about it. he probably should have done something about it before - that doesn't mean he could have or that he hasn't tried and failed many many times. ampersand
it's not excuses, it's reasons maybe his problem could have been picked up on earlier, and it might not have become as crippling as it did
RABun
i'm treating this as an individual case. and i'm entirely justified to have this opinion.
Ed209
if it takes him years and years to realise that eating 20,000 calories a day is a problem, then this calls for a facepalm!

ampersand
if it was self inflicted (which his is), i'd feel embarrassed and ashamed that i was costing the nhs more than 7 times my annual salary a year! but why be ashamed when you can just get defensive and sue the people who help you. Ed209
Do you really think tobacco and alcohol duty gets ring-fenced to pay fo the burden on society of smokers and drinkers though?

dakyras
Nah, he started eating in his 20's when some 40 year old woman dumped him.
saratink
It won't happen and if they did try to implement it they would be accused of taxing solely for more money. My main concern if it was raised would be that all the smaller independent fast food places would struggle and it would just leave the chains. I'd much rather go to the local chippy than Burger King. rachbon
The thing with this man, why couldn't he just stop eating crap? If i got to 20 stone, then i would definately notice and do something about it!! Not carry on and get to 50 stone!!
ampersand
I agree. Whilst eating chippy regularly, i would much rather have food from there than a big chain. saratink
food can be an addiction but unlike other addictions, you can't stop eating food.
jump
I love food, and i like eating. And you can stop eating burger and chips, and have something healthier. No, not just a salad, it is possible to loose weight having good meals. So he'd still be eating but just eating less crap.
