On the other hand I think that once you reach the headliners it shouldn't be viewed like that. Ian Brown headlined the tent (3rd) at V who is obviously something of a legend. I don't think DJ Shadow could(/should) headline NME, but at the same time you wouldn't want him subbing in NME, whereas headlining a smaller tent would be a lot more suitable for him and his audience.
