Bit of a Sunday Night Dilemma

Hi all,

Stupidly  /  (I know) but nothing I can do now...I've booked a holiday and I fly Monday morning (after the festival) so was wondering is there any time boundaries as to when I can leave the festival Sunday day/night and also do you know if many people leave before Monday morning?

Thanks in advance :)

One of our gang had to leave on a Sunday night a couple of years ago. He got out with no problems and no traffic jams. But remember finding your car in the dark won't be easy so be really clear on its location when you park and make sure you've got a torch with you to find it.

Have a good holiday.

Just go on the App Store and grab a free car finder or tent finder app. There may even be a free one built into the Orange Festival App, but I don't have it installed atm.

Just make sure that the one you get doesn't require 3g for mapping and you're good. There are a couple on there that just show you an arrow in the direction you have to go.

In regards to leaving on Sunday Night, last year I left from the camper-van fields at about 1am. I was back in Shrewsbury by 6, including a stop for coffee en-route. So I suppose with planning you could catch the last Pyramid head-liner and then head straight for the airport. Wouldn't want to sit next to you on the plane though

That said if I manage to snaffle a resale ticket this year I will be staying as long as possible on Sunday Night/Monday Morning. Really hated leaving last year.

Fair point.

So long as you remember which field number you parked in, you'll be absolutely fine.

You could use the map in the timetable to navigate to that field, then GPS to find the car (as you're in the right field already you don't have to worry about not having the map loaded if there's no data connection).

Really is using a app, 3G, GPS really necessary? And what is the chances your phone will be even charged to do that on the Sunday night?

Just take a note of the field number, 2 or 3 visual points to remember ie lighting tower/pylons and count the rows back from there.. it's not rocket science

Just on attaching something bright to your car aerial, remember with a lot of cars the aerial retracts when you switch the ignition off.

Stick with the field number and possibly draw a little sketch of where in the field your car was parked. They look very different as they fill up and you can't rely on 'it was parked next to that big red van' because, as I once found out to my cost, the big red van may have gone before you.

Remember where it was parked in relation to hedges, gates and trees - things that are unlikely to move.

Just to make you aware it not all plain sailing :(

In 2009 we had to leave on sunday night because my lad had work experience the next day.

We left straight after Blur (we had taken all our stuff back earlier in the day)

We were parked at the west side up near Gate A (just one turning from gate A actually), and it took us 2 1/2 hours to get out of the gate :(

...but once we were out it was a nice empty roads home, stopped for breakfast on the way back, got back to sunny bradford at 9am, the big lad started work experience at 10am B)

Make sure that you visit your car at some time during the festival.

we camped off site(very local) on the sunday at last years fest. However the marshals had parked the field so badly where we where that 2 whole rows of cars where unable to leave site untill there was a gap on the Monday morning.

Luckilly the campsite was close to the carpark.

The last thing you need is to be unable to get out of the carpark.

Where I mainly work if you don't retract your aerial some bugger will snap it off for you. And my fancy car is a twelve year old Saab that's done 180,000 miles. Even one of my learners looked at it the other week and said "that's a bit of an old banger." Still it's a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing - a 2.3 turbo that will give most things a run for their money.

I often wonder if people's choice of car is a reflection of themselves. I match my car in terms of being a bit of an old classic, somewhat past my sell by date, and probably in need of a good service.

I'm surprised nowts happened to ours since it sports a jaunty little skull and crossbones. Lifestyle has definitely had an influence on the car. Big estate to carry all our festivalling/camping gear and an automatic for lazy drives home from said festivals/camping. :D

A few of our camp had to leave on the Sunday in 2009 for various reasions.

3 car loads out of the 7 that came down left after the Sunday headliners, I went back with one of my mates, He watched Blur, I watched Prodigy and we met at the campsite by 12midnight.

aid our goodbyes to those that were staying and were back at car (East) and offsite by 1.15am. Got back to just south of Oxford at 3.30am ish and I was tucked up in bed watching highlights of the festival (think I lasted about 20 mins before I fell asleep :D ) by 3.45am.

Felt slightly smug when my mates rang me to see if we had got back quickly just as we were nearing home and they told me it had started raining, made me feel slightly better that I wasn't missing a riot of a night by leaving when I did.

Would recommened leaving that late if you can't stay till the Monday.

So not too bad going, Prodigy finishing at 11.30pm and I was in my own bed 100 miles away 4 hours later.

Luckily it was a one off for me as I always usually stay till Monday afternoon!

Mine's an auto too and a largeish hatchback for festival gear. Once you've had an auto you wonder why anyone wants to waggle little gear levers and kill their clutch foot any more.

It's still got last year's Glasto sticker on the windscreen and I find it great if you spot another vehicle with a Glasto sticker. A cheery wave and you let them into any queue.

I was thinking of leaving just before the headliner as I'm flying and it's not for work or something...bit of a risk to take don't you think..The again, have to be at Manchester airport at 5 so will pretty much have to.

My car won't get jammed in will it, is it organised well
