What is this talk of Mumford & Sons headlining soon? Are you mad?

I have absolute confidence they will go the way of The Darkness,The Kooks and all the other flavour of the month and before anyone mentions it I am aware that The Darkness headlined.

They have done very well for themselves from their album and had some great critical acclaim but I doubt they will continue that by the time they release their second album.

You can say that but at the time The Darkness were far bigger than Mumford are now and were having even more crossover success aswell as critical.

While I freely admit that Mumford are not my cup of tea,I have been openly critical and scornful of them on here,I can still evaluate it objectively and i really believe that people are getting ahead of themselves on here.

I wouldn't really pay to much attention to the Brits mate, they generally aren't career making/affirming awards.

As for your speculation on future albums, same could be said for quite afew others.

Mumford have incredible support from Radio 1 at the moment but I would say for them to have a shot at headlining or elevating themselves to be considered for it they would need to release their next album ASAP to cash in on their popularity but from what ive read they havent even written it yet.I don't see them returning in a years time with a new album and still having the same support.

So hard to predict from one album, nigh on impossible.

Who you should be looking at are people bands like Biffy who have been moving up bills and are now enjoying huge commercial success and been given the chance at Soni. They could now be at the point that they are genuine headliners in the future.

Elbow are critically lauded and been moving up bills. On the verge I'd say.

Dizzee Rascal.Been moving up bills and has massive commercial value and cross over appeal.

Pendulum,see the reasons above.

I'd point out that none of them are my type of thing but looking at it objectively I can see the possibilities and the reasons behind them.Others too.

My I ask how old you are?

Yeah I know someone else mentioned Biffy in this thread. Elbow is a good point actually, I didn't think about them. Dizzee is an interesting one, because based on the success and material he has, he should be headlining festivals but based on his type of music he doesn't in my opinion, because surely a rock artist which his success would no doubt headline. Pendulum, I would rather they didn't exist.

Yeah I'm 18 which I'm sure I will get slated for, but personally the band I would most want to play this year is Primal Scream, which definitely isn't typical for people my age

Because of the music Dizzee makes its going to take him longer to be accepted enough to headline places like serious music festivals.

I'm not going to slate you for your age, just going to say as you get older you have a greater appreciation and understanding of the trends and how things pan out when trying to predict future headliners.

Not true,he just has to be respected. He will never be as big as the two you mentioned but that doesn't mean he cant headline.

Dizzee has been around for nearly 10 years playing the festivals and touring with people who have high festival slots which exposes him to the people who attend festivals.Couple this with his commercial success and cross over appeal and i dont think many people would begrudge him headlining V or Glastonbury say.If that happens and they are successful gigs then I don't see how people could question a headline performance at Reading.
