Motivations for attending the Reading and Leeds festivals

My dissertation topic is to explore motivations for attending the Reading and Leeds music festivals. If you have attended one of these festivals, or both, please could you give a moment of your time to fill out my questionnaire? It will only take a few minutes to complete. I am aiming to collect around 100 results from participants and will really appreciate all of the responses I receive.

Questionnaire on Festival Motivations Survey

I also wish to start a discussion on this forum, please could you state what your main motivator for attending the festival(s) was and why?

Your confidentiality will be assured in my research.

If you have any questions regarding the study feel free to contact me at n.groom@wlv.ac.uk.

Many Thanks! Naomi

To get pissed on two pints of Tuborg and then go well mental, blowing gas cannisters up and setting other people's belongings alight, all while shouting such random things as "buttscratcher!". Did you know my Mummy pays for my trips to Leeds fest? It's a reward for passing my GCSEs. :)

Music is the most important factor for me. The social aspect and dose of pop culture was never a contributing factor to me deciding to get tickets for it, and the only thing that'd make me go back is a variety of great bands. If the music was shit, I wouldn't go, mainly because the type of people that surrounded me spoiled the experience somewhat.

First went in 99 as it was the closest big fest in England and had a more alternative line up than TITP. I've been going ever since because although the music and atmosphere have changed, Leeds is still a cracking festival and has actually got better over the years with the growth of late night entertainment.

Thanks to everyone that answered my questionnaire...I only need 10 more people to answer it so its going good! Please keep it going..

Also, my discussion topic-thanks to all that have answered so far, muchly appreciated!

In response to 'Vacant0', cultural exploration refers to like the location, experience and history surrounding the festival.. it is interesting to see that you have had different motivations for goin each time, may I ask what these were? I will definately comment on that in my results. I realise my questionnaire may be a bit basic, but it is based on questionnaires in past studies on festival motivation, one of which that has been published. So i am looking to see if I get similar results.

Can anybody tell me other factors that have motivated them to go besides music, socialising, novelty, general entertainment, escape from everyday life and culture... ?

:)
