Guest
http://www.nme.com/news/the-strokes/55040 Reading like exclusives... Interesting development.
bennyk
When Melvin Benn says the headliners are 'UK exclusives' does that mean just UK exclusives to festivals or does that include UK tour dates? I swear My Chemical Romance are currently on tour?
dacbo
uk/europe tour could easily mean festivals
lucastang
Well Blink 182 were UK exclusives, but they played 2 shows in Scotland a few days before they came to R+L. So the answer to your question is, no, they are not ruled out.

bennyk
MCR tours finishes very conviently a few days before the announcement. My money was on Strokes subbing anyway and hopefully they have booked at least 1 true "staggering" band.
lucastang
Blink didn't announce the shows till after R&L was sold out, the same with all the bands that have headlined in the past.
jump
Still UK festival exclusives nevertheless.
allan14
if i remeber right melvin said that the headliners are not at any other festivals but did not mention there own tour the other week. still i would be suprised if he did book a headliner that int exclusive but think its worth a mention

lucastang
It does but he has never said "UK exclusive" just they wont be headlining other festivals and normaly it's english festival excluive.
bennyk
Yes, in the interview he only said they were 'UK festival exclusives'
jump
Melvin did mention that they won't be headlining anywhere else. So they can even do a show right up to the day before but yet still play R+L.
lucastang
Which would be very strange as no other band as has ever been allowed to have tixs on sale/announced dates around the time of the R&L announcement. Not saying it's not possible but to bend their own rules for a band the size of The Strokes would be stupid.
bennyk
May not necessarily play England though, fat chance but it's definitely a possibility. With regards to the bbc newsbeat link, I think Melvin is trying to confuse us. BASTARD
jump
Aye, he is being a bit clever this year. Giving us hints but then again keeping his cards close to his chest, cheeky bugger
bennyk
He does this every year, last time he was saying he had someone bigger than Jay Z so people thought he meant Eminem and it turned out it was Gun N Roses.
mrtourette
When he says exlusive festival headliners I take that to mean exclusive to festivals in England, so in theory they could still headline TITP, and not headlining anywhere else in England, so they could still be playing second on the bill at Glasto (or even atop the Other Stage). I don't think there's anything that suggests they won't or can't do their own tour.
thetime
dont know why he worries about exclusive bands, just get the best bands that are playing the fests.

ivan
The Strokes could just be doing a few promitional dates at few thousand capactity venues. That would not upset Mr Benn !
jump
Did he explicitly say that he meant festivals in England though?

Dave The Hedgehog
No, but he doesn't really say anything explicitly, that's the problem. Best to scale it down to the minimum of what he can mean rather than assuming he means something else and end up disappointed.
