Friendly Fires

I don't want to piss anyone off by starting this new topic, but I have heard that Friendly Fires will be playing this year although accourding to my source they don't know which stage. Personally I would love to see them play especially after 2009s performance in the NME tent. Were really good on the main stage this year at Wireless despite most of the crowd disappearing to see Professor Green. Please don't take this too seriously but what with the other threads about possible NME headliners...

They are playing the same size venues as Klaxons and their album has also done better Klaxon's too you bullshitting numpty, they have already played 3rd so they would be moving up the bill and fits in the tradition of bands not that big but big with the crowd like View, Gossip, Cribs at the time.

I would say the difference is that the bands you menioned have had singles that got good radio airplay. You get a lot of casual fans at a festival who are often more attracted to a band if they have heard a song on radio 1. Friendly fires have a cult following but havent really crossed over to the mainstream as much as the bands you mentioned.

The BBC report they have had double platinum albums, depends what source you believe! Im not looking at how big bands are now, as maximo parks popularity has taken a hit. Maximos debut album had 3 top 20 singles and a load of radio play. Friendly fires no top 20 singles and little radio play. To claim that both were in similar positions at the same stage is not true.

Well just shows that you cant believe everything the bbc says!

Still doesnt hide the fact that maximo were the better known band at the same stage of their career and almost certainly had bigger album sales. It would be unthinkable for the second friendly fire album to chart at two. Maximo also headlined nme tour.

Again I'm basing my comparison on the 1st album sales and venues both of which are similar and Maximo Park 1st album didn't even go gold till the their 2nd album was released which was a year later than when they headlined unlike Friendly Fires who have a gold album now. These types of bands are booked on what they can possibly achieve as they are booked 7ish months advance of the festival, it's also worth noting Friendly Fires were nominated for 2 Brits Awards (possibly the most mainstream music awards) for best British group & newcomer unlike Maximo Park who were never been nominated aswell as the Mercuary Prize.

We're talking about when they headlined not now and Cribs have never had a gold album unlike Friendly Fires.

I'm bored of this argument, I've said it's possible not definite.

My point was more along the lines of can you see friendly fires getting that high up the bill?

Also everything depends on that second album. There are lots of bands who's second albums have just flopped badly.

I personally don't see them headlining the NME stage but I'd eat humble pie if they did.
